Although the premiere of “The Green Border” is scheduled for September 22, the film is already causing huge controversy. The director presented her new work during the 80th Venice International Film Festival and received very good reviews from critics. Politicians and supporters of the Polish right wing, mainly those who have not seen the film, have a different opinion. The cast and theme were enough to call the production “anti-Polish” and one that “harasses the audience” like “Nazi propaganda”.
Tomasz Raczek attacked for a positive review of “The Green Border”
Holland talked in the film about the humanitarian crisis on the Polish-Belarusian border. The reviews of people who have seen the film show that it is a very moving picture with a strong message about an attempt to preserve humanity by both refugees and the Border Guard.
One of the most popular film critics in Poland has already had the opportunity to watch “The Green Border”. He posted his review of the film on his YouTube channel. It turned out that commentators with a negative attitude towards the production and its creator criticized not only the film, but also those who praised the picture. Raczek was shocked by some of the comments.
“Aren’t you ashamed to spit on Poland and Poles?”
Shortly after the film was published, the reviewer wrote on his Facebook: “Trolls attacked my review of the film GREEN BORDER on YouTube. The level of mindless hate and vulgar rudeness has reached its zenith!” Apparently, most of the comments have already been moderated, but you can still see xenophobic, hateful statements about emigrants, but also about the critic himself.
“Instead of a review, Mr. Tomasz wrote a bunch of crap,” we read. “We need to make a counter-film” – urges one of the commenters, another commented on a graphic description: “Putin is kicking us Poles, Lukashenko is spitting on us, and Mrs. Holland is pouring sewage on us, but Mr. Raczek is standing over us smiling and saying: ‘be amazed’ this!'” There were also voices that the critic was bribed by PO politicians and questions about whether he was “not ashamed of spitting on Poland and Poles.”
The vast majority of those writing opinions under the film showed support for Raczek. Commenters also sadly asked: “what did you expect?”
