On September 13, Maciej Bochniak’s “Freestyle” appeared on Netflix. The premiere screenings will also take place at the Gdynia Festival, where the production, along with other strong titles, will compete for the Golden Lion. What can we expect from the new Netflix movie?

“Freestyle” is the latest film by Maciej Bochniak, the director responsible for, among others, such productions as or . He wrote the script for a new film about rappers together with Sławomir Mateja. He played the role of Diego, a rapper and gangster.

Netflix film at the Gdynia Film Festival

Maciej Bochniak’s latest film was nominated for the Golden Lion along with 16 other titles. The competition is really big, because “Chłopi”, “Imago”, “Święty” and “Raport Pilecki” are also in line for the main prize. “Freestyle” is also the only film that will be screened at the Gdynia Festival this year.

What is “Freestyle” about?

Although the title and shots shown in the trailer may be very misleading, “Freestyle” is not actually a film about music. The plot tells the story of Diego, an aspiring rapper closely associated with the gangster underworld. The boy records his first songs in a professional studio, until, of course, his friend gets into a conflict with the owner of the place. Diego decides to get money to record the album himself. For this purpose, he employs local barons as a drug dealer. However, he is not honest in his actions, which his superiors quickly find out. Diego must save the lives of himself and his lover named Miki (Nel Kaczmarek).
