The pop star Taylor Swift triumphed last night with his song Anti hero during a long awards gala Music Video Awards (VMA) from the female-dominated music channel MTV, hip-hop anniversary celebrations and a last-minute mix-up.

Taylor Swift took her ‘forbidden steps’ during Shakira’s memorable performance at the VMAs: she sang, danced and even demonstrated her sensuality

Taylor Swift, who is doing great with her tour The eraswas the most nominated and lived up to expectations, winning the most coveted awards: artist of the year, music video of the year, song of the year and pop song, but also the direction, because it was she who stood behind – and in front of – the camera.

Swift, who competed for eleven “astronaut” statuettes, ultimately won nine: tIt also won album of the year, best summer show, cinematography and visual effects.

However, MTV sowed confusion when after four hours the gala at the Prudential Center (New Jersey, USA) ended without announcing the winners of several categories, which it later updated on X (formerly Twitter) and on its website without questions from the media .

In general, and despite the unforeseen, It was a special gala for women, who for the first time received all nominations for artist of the year.and especially for Latin American women, who monopolized the stage by collecting awards, such as Shakira, Karol G and Anitta, and give exciting and colorful performances.

The VMAs are the oldest music awards on the MTV network: They’ve been presented since 1984, so virtually every headliner of the night had an anecdote to share about growing up watching the music television channel, creating an atmosphere of nostalgia.

Meetings such as that of the pop boy band also contributed to this atmosphere. NSYNC or the emo-style rock band Falling out boywhich contrasted with more current names, such as Doja Cat, Peso Pluma, the Mexicans The Warning or the Koreans Stray Kids.

Latin power in music

The Colombian women Shakira won an award in tribute to her career, the Video Vanguard Award, which he dedicated to his “Latin American people”, and later collected another with his compatriot Karol G for their collaboration “TGQ”, in which they remembered Barranquilla and Medellín, their cities.

Shakira ‘rocked’ the MTV Video Music Awards with her sensual hip movement: the Colombian offered a memorable presentation with the best of her repertoire

Shakira starred in one of the gala’s great moments, compressing her hits into a fast-paced 10-minute medley in which she had time to dance, move her famous hips, “surf” the crowd and to climb on stage that rose into the air.

The shows of Anita, which first offered Brazilian funk and then a remarkable collaboration with the group K-pop Tomorrow x Together; Cardi B, who reunited with Meghan Thee Stallion; and Karol G, who made reggaeton resound in the room.

Separately, Fat Joe and Thalía presented the award for the Latin category, in which Anitta repeated for the second year with “Funk rave,” pointing out that “Latin music reached $1 billion in 2022,” a growing popularity clearly reflected in this MTV gala.

Hip-hop was another headliner to coincide with the genre’s 50th anniversary, with a final concert featuring pioneers such as Grandmaster Flash, LL Cool J, Lil Wayne and Nicki Minaj, for which it won the award for the best video clip in this genre Super crazy girl.

A while earlier, P. Diddy, who received the Global Icon Award, discussed his most popular songs, such as I will miss you And last nightin which he was accompanied by Keyshia Cole; and there were also other notable names such as young rapper Ice Spice, best new artist.

MTV presented several awards per music genre and this year saw the premiere of the “afrobeats” award, which went to Nigerian singer Rema for his song Take it easy together with the American of Mexican descent Selena Gomez and which he dedicated to Africa.
