Maria Konopnicka is an outstanding Polish writer. What else did she do?
Maria Konopnicka made her debut in 1870 with the poem “In the Morning”, which she published under a pseudonym. She did not want to be a housewife supported by her husband, so when one of her poems was favorably commented by Henryk Sienkiewicz, she decided to break up and move to Warsaw with her eight children. Her outstanding work quickly gained recognition. In 1908, she published “Rota” in one of the magazines.
Maria Konopnicka wrote poems, took part in conspiratorial and open social actions, edited magazines for women, dealt with literary criticism, and also wrote for children. Around 1886, she met Maria DulÄ™bianka, who, according to some authors, was her life partner for the next 20 years. Even though 113 years have passed since her death, one of the creators managed to recreate the poet’s photo in the present day.
