In the 1970s, 2 plus 1 topped the charts. The group’s vocalist, Elżbieta Dmoch, enjoyed great popularity and sympathy among listeners. Although she was successful on stage, her private life was full of turmoil and unfortunate coincidences. Ultimately, the stage star withdrew from public life. Today he lives in poverty, but he does not want help from others.
The beginnings of Elżbieta Dmoch’s career. The band 2 plus 1 took over the Polish music scene
El¿bieta Dmoch’s vocal skills emerged when she was still a child. Then she started taking individual singing lessons, and soon after she started studying at a music school. She made her debut on stage as a teenager. First, she performed with the rock group Nieznajomi, and after the end of their cooperation, she joined Warszawskie Kuranty. Janusz Kruk, the artist’s future partner and the love of her life, was a member of this formation. When Warszawskie Kuranty broke up, Kruk and Dmoch were already a couple. In 1971, they decided it would be a good idea to start their own band. They quickly implemented the plan and created a formation called 2 plus 1. The musicians did not have to wait long for their successes. Numerous concerts and performances at the most popular festivals in Poland ensured their recognition and media interest. “Polska Abba”, as many people called the group, promoted the greatest hits of the 1970s. The songs “Chodź, pomaluj moja przed”, “Winda do nieba” and “Czerwone solczko” are still known and liked by listeners.
When they met, Kruk had a family. He abandoned his wife and child for Dmoch
It was no secret that Elżbieta and Janusz had much more in common than professional matters. They liked each other already at the first meeting, but at that time the musician had a wife and a child. He completely lost his mind for the young and talented 17-year-old and finally decided to leave his family. Although her relatives advised her against this relationship, saying that she should not build her happiness on other people’s suffering, she was blindly focused on Kruk and did not care about the opinion of others. They lived in Sadyba, Warsaw, and got married in 1973. The couple’s happiness did not last long. Kruk loved the party lifestyle, and he willingly organized alcohol-infused meetings in their shared apartment. The singer didn’t like this. In the mid-1980s, the marriage began to fall apart. The guitarist was not happy with the fact that the band was not as popular as at the beginning of their career and began to look into the glass. — For Kruk, any excuse was good to go out with a drink, and if it weren’t for Elżbieta’s persistence, he wouldn’t have composed even half of what was left of him – Marek Dutkiewicz.
Numerous states of intoxication caused the musician to stop being faithful to his wife and secretly meet with other women. He finally asked for a divorce. Elżbieta Dmoch was shocked, especially since her lover decided to abandon her for another woman. She couldn’t come to terms with the divorce for a long time and was painfully affected by her failure in love. Despite their separation, the former spouses still worked together.
After the death of her beloved, she was on the verge of despair. Dmoch interrupted her career and disappeared from the media
Elżbieta Dmoch’s world turned upside down again in 1992, when Kruk suffered a massive heart attack and died. The death of her beloved shocked the artist. She fell into depression, decided to disappear from the media and decided to end her career. — Her world was the stage, dressing room, interviews, television. When Kruk died, everything collapsed – said the former drummer of 2 plus 1, Wacław Laskowski, in an interview with Onet. Dmoch was unable to come to terms with her ex-husband’s death. She cut herself off from friends and acquaintances and spent her days in an apartment in Warsaw. Relatives recalled that even during accidental meetings, she quickly cut off the conversation as if “she was surrounded by an invisible wall.” For a long time she lived on savings, but they soon ran out. Then she moved to a small house in the village of Gładków near Tarczyn. Unfortunately, the conditions in the property were terrible. There was no heating or running water. After the case was publicized by the media, the artist received the royalties due to her, and her living conditions began to improve.
A momentary return to the stage and another blow from fate. The singer disappeared from the media and does not plan to return to music
At the turn of 1998 and 1999, Dmoch returned to the stage. She seemed to be in good shape and announced the reactivation of the cult band. Her last performance took place in 2002 on stage in Łomża, where, together with the young PopArt band, she sang hits from the 2 plus 1 repertoire. Later, she disappeared again. It is known that when she disappeared from the media, she moved from the countryside to Warsaw and lived with her elderly mother. The women had a strong bond, so when the woman died in 2006, Dmoch suffered a nervous breakdown and ended up in a psychiatric hospital. Friends from the past repeatedly offered her support, but the star was not interested in helping. — Our contacts have ended. Elizabeth does not want help and rejects every kind gesture. It’s good that she at least accepts the modest pension that the postman brings her every month and has started collecting money from royalties – years ago, a member of 2 plus 1, Cezary Szlązak. Currently, Elżbieta Dmoch is under the care of the Polish Music Foundation, which supports her both mentally and financially.
