Standard, summer and winter mode for plastic windows. What is this?
The mode of modern plastic windows determines the degree of pressing of the sash to the frame. It could be:
- Standard, in which the sash has an average pressure, optimal for the sealing material. The window system is able to work effectively both in winter and summer. The eccentric is in a central position.
- Winter. The tightest possible fit of the door leaf to the frame is ensured. The winter position of plastic windows allows you to retain heat in the house more effectively.
- Summer. The sash is attached less tightly. Air can circulate freely, providing a micro-ventilation effect. This creates comfortable conditions in the apartment during the hot season.
How to switch windows to winter mode? It’s very simple
Adjusting the window system changes the degree of sash pressure. As a result, the degree and rate of wear of the gasket and fasteners is reduced. Most modern PVC windows are equipped with a mechanism with summer and winter mode. The latter involves pressing the sash more firmly to the frame, thereby making the window tighter and reducing heat loss from the house. This may affect heating costs. Enough screw in the window sash and check its position in relation to the seal. The thicker side indicates winter mode, while the narrower side indicates summer mode. If we want to switch the windows from summer to winter mode, we will need a special key (Allen key, open-end key, box-type key) that will allow us to perform this task. Often, however, it is enough to use a regular screwdriver or pliers.
- Start by locating the metal screw in the sash.
- Then turn it 90 degrees (to the right) and you’re done.
- In spring, when you want to return to summer mode, do this again by turning the screw in the opposite direction (to the left).
