Danny Masterson blew a kiss to his wife before he went to prison. 30 years for rape, but the defense attorney wants to appeal

Danny Masterson was found guilty of two rapes in May, and on September 8 he was sentenced to 30 years in prison. According to the first reports, the “That ’70s Show” actor did not show any remorse or other emotions in the courtroom, but now the gesture towards his wife has become famous. The defender announces that it is not over yet.

A drawing has become public (during trials in the United States, you are not allowed to take photos in the courtroom, it is customary for cartoonists to work there) showing Danny Masterson blowing a kiss to his wife before he was taken to prison. Bijou Phillips was also accompanied to the courtroom by other members of Masterson’s family. The drawing is published by “People” – you can see it.

Masterson began dating actress Bijou Phillips in 2005. In 2009, they got engaged and on October 18, 2011, they got married.

Danny Masterson got 30 years, but the defense attorney announces an appeal

During , judge Charlaine Olmedo told Masterson:

Mr. Masterson, you are not the victim here. Your actions 20 years ago took away another person’s voice and choice. Your actions 20 years ago were criminal and that’s why you’re here

Masterson’s defense attorney, Shawn Holley, said in a statement sent to People magazine after the verdict that he would appeal.

Court: guilty of two rapes

The judge sentenced the actor after rejecting a defense request for a new trial, filed earlier on Thursday. 30 years in prison is the maximum sentence allowed by law. This means that the actor, who became famous for his role in the sitcom starring Ashton Kutcher and Mila Kunis, will be able to apply for parole after serving 25 and a half years in prison, but may also end up with life imprisonment.

For the first time, the actor appeared in court in October 2020. He was accused by three women who allegedly raped him in his Hollywood home between 2001 and 2003. All are former members of the Church of Scientology, of which Masterson was also a member. The prosecutor’s office argued that the actor wanted to avoid responsibility by using his high position in the Scientology organization. In December 2022, the jury was unable to reach a verdict, so another trial was held. Jurors found Masterson guilty of two of three rape charges.
