The XVIII edition of the Ecuador Jazz 2023 festival will take place from September 14 to 23 at the Nacional Sucre and Variedades Ernesto Albán theaters, in the city of Quitoa cultural activity in which 172 musicians from Ecuador, Puerto Rico, the United States, Brazil, Chile, Colombia and France participate.
Ecuador Jazz 2023 is a festival to discover talents and trends produced around this genre of music on a national and international level. This poster promotes the concept of diversity, as a conceptual axis that unites diversity jazz with other sonorous and aesthetic currents of the present time, is indicated by the city government of the capital.
This year, the festival pays tribute to the saxophone, the star instrument, the basis of this music genre, with the most relevant artists worldwide: Miguel Zenón (Puerto Rico), Immanuel Wilkins (United States), Melissa Aldana (Chile) and Frenchman Samy Thiebault .
In addition, the international participation is complemented by the Brazilian singer-songwriter Liniker Barros, from the group Liniker e os Caramelows.
Newen Afrobeat (Chile) celebrates the musical legacy of Fela Kuti, and from Colombia the festival hosts the Afro Legends and the Bogotá quartet Bituin.
Pies en la Tierra will be present at the Ecuadorian representation, celebrating twenty years on the local scene. Drummer Raúl Molina presents his first album, motherland.
The festival offers an example of the jazz Ecuadorian with the groups Daniela Almodarain Grupo, Rebecca Chubay Quartet, El Dolor: Santiago Sandoval with Lyzbeth Badaraco, Bjarke Lund Trio, Jenny Villafuerte, Szymanski / Blanchard / Sebastia Hard Bop Project, Andrei Astaiza: Chonta Madre, Gandhy Rubio Ensemble, Ali Lema, Forgotten weapon: Nick Jost and Andrés Benavides.
