Today, women can spend hours in cosmetic drugstores and choose the best foundation, powder or eye shadows. Once upon a time, one could only dream of such a thing. Due to the shortage of cosmetics in stores, women used products found at home for skin care. Many of these tricks are still used today.
Taking care of beauty in the People’s Republic of Poland. Homemade masks
In the People’s Republic of Poland, people showed great creativity. Only two shampoos were available in stores: with nettle and family. For this reason, women used water and vinegar rinses, thanks to which the strands were shiny and bouncy. Homemade face mask made of hot milk and honey was also popular. A tablespoon of honey was added to 125 ml of whole milk and heated. After cooling down, the mixture was rubbed into the skin, the head was wrapped in cling film and kept for half an hour. After this time, rinse the mixture with lukewarm water. Daily use products were also used for face care. It was enough to whip one protein, add 2 tablespoons of honey and squeeze the juice of one lemon. After mixing, the substance was applied for 20 minutes. It congealed and took the form of an intensively nourishing and regenerating mask. Then just rinse with lukewarm water.
Cosmetics of the 80s. What did women use?
The most popular and versatile product in the 1970s and 1980s was definitely dishwashing liquid. It first appeared in Poland in 1964. It had a green bottle, a swan label, and a minty scent. At first, it was used only in the kitchen, but its useful properties were quickly discovered and also found its way to the bathroom. It was used to wash the body, hands and hair. The lips were stained with red mouthwash, which over time gave way to green lipstick. Only after applying it on the lips did it turn pink. The eyelashes were painted spit. The ink was in the form of a black stone that had to be spit on or poured with water to make it a fluid, thick consistency. The resulting mixture was applied to the eyelashes and then separated with a needle. In this way, the sticky hairs could be avoided.
