90 hours before the wedding, they received a letter. The hotel demanded almost 9 thousand. PLN surcharge
The contract for the organization in the hotel was signed in 2018 by a couple whose relationship did not last, so two years later, in accordance with the assignment, the reservation was transferred to another couple. The date of the ceremony was July 2022. Everything seemed to be on the last button when, 4 days before the big event, the engaged couple received a letter from the lawyer who represented the hotel. According to him, the organizer demanded an additional payment of 9 thousand. PLN to book. The reason was inflation.
Inflation is the reason for the increase. “If we don’t pay extra, there will be no wedding”
The letter noted that due to the increase in prices (120 percent on average) of both products and catering services, the organizer was forced to increase the amount of the liability by 24 percent, i.e. from PLN 36,720, which the couple was to pay, to PLN 45,532 PLN 80. In total, this resulted in an increase of PLN 8,812.80. Everything took place just 90 hours before the planned ceremony. – The hotel manager said that if we do not pay extra, there will be no wedding, the door to the hotel will be closed – admitted the bride’s father, quoted by the portal. Finally, the man decided to pay extra because he did not want his daughter’s wedding to be canceled because of this. In the title of the transfer, however, he indicated that the amount was paid “under duress and the threat of failure to perform the service”. He also decided not to let the matter go.
The case ended up in court. How did it go?
After the wedding, the man decided to sue, who demanded a large surcharge just before the planned wedding. Ultimately, the case ended up in court, where the victims prevailed, and the hotel was obliged to return the full amount of the surcharge, as well as attorney’s fees and interest. – I think it is worth for readers to know about this and not allow themselves to be treated like this by entities providing services to the consumer – informed the father of the bride.
