Anna Dymna was born as Małgorzata Dziadyk on July 20, 1951 in Legnica. Her childhood passed in a warm and family atmosphere and the actress herself recalled this period with nostalgia many times. Her father, Jan Dziadyk, was a racing driver and an aeronautical engineer by education. In the past, he took part in Zakopane rallies, but when he started a family, he sold his motorcycle and bought a motorbike with a trailer. Anna Dymna, together with her brothers and parents, traveled all over Poland by vehicle, often playing Chinese or intelligentsia. In the conversation, he mentions:
As a child, I was calm and happy: I spit the farthest, I was great at walking in trees, I could fish, I was also praised for being able to fight with boys. I was brought up wonderfully. And then, when I was Dymny’s wife, we made furniture and handbags ourselves. We did everything together. From dawn to night.
She did not plan to become an actress, but life wrote a different scenario. At the age of 10, she took theater classes
As a child, Anna Dymna dreamed about her future and planned to become a marine microbiologist. At the age of 10, at the urging of her neighbor, an actor and teacher, Jan Niwiński, she began attending theater classes. It was he who saw the talent and potential in her, and then convinced her to try her hand at the theater and get into the Theater School, even though she wanted to study psychology after passing her final exams. At that time, Dymna was battling mononucleosis and was of very small stature. She weighed less than fifty kilos and looked about twelve years old. This did not prevent her from getting into the State Higher Theater School. As she mentioned:
The drama school was full of girls prettier than me. But I looked like a child, and there was a demand for such shapely, naive-looking girls in film and theater at the time. The directors didn’t hire me because I knew something. My appearance, joy, humility, diligence, manner of behavior – these were gifts from God. Nothing else.
She made her debut in the theater in 1969, where she played the double role of Isia and Chochoł in Stanisław Wyspiański’s The Wedding, and a little later she posed on the cover of Przekrój. Her career developed and Anna Dymna at some point became one of the most popular actresses in Poland. In 1971, she made her first screen appearance in the comedy 150 an hour. She also played in “Five and a Half Pale Józek”. Although the production did not see the light of day, it had an impact on her life. The script was written by Wiesław Dymny, who later became her husband. In 1973, she graduated from college and began collaborating with the Stary Theatre. The young actress was distinguished not only by her incredible modesty, but also by her unique beauty and look. Thanks to this, she enjoyed great recognition among critics and the sympathy of viewers.
At some point, she was pigeonholed. “Some movies I shouldn’t be in”
Career continued to develop. There was no shortage of proposals from theater directors and film directors. On the glass screen, she appeared in such productions as: “Nie mamocnych”, “Love or throw”, “Janosik”, “Leper” or “Znachorze”. The actress delighted with her talent, but also with her beauty, which at some point was only talked about, without mentioning anything about her skills. For several years, Anna Dymna was pigeonholed as an actress “who is easy to undress”, but as she admits in an interview, she looks at her first roles with tenderness and is not ashamed of her past choices.
I was a shy, innocent girl. I uncritically accepted what the directors said. I was unable to defend myself against the stereotype that then stuck to me for years. I shouldn’t be in some movies…
Her image changed after pregnancy. The directors stopped seeing her only as an “object of desire”
Today, Anna Dymna with a distance admits that her breasts made a bigger career half a century ago than she did. The perception of her as an object of desire by the creators of many film and theater productions changed when the actress became pregnant. The star stopped being cast in the roles of girls, and instead, she was offered characters who had a baggage of experience. W said:
After the birth of my son, I stopped being pretty and shapely, after pregnancy I gained 32 kilograms. I never got back to my old form.
The first role after the birth of her son was given to Anna Dymna by Kazimierz Kutz. According to the actress, involvement in the production of “Hollywood Stories” gave her the opportunity to present herself to a wider audience in a completely new version and helped to break the stereotype about her. smoke says:
[…] that’s how he needed me, fat, fat, with big breasts. It allowed me to find the courage to appear in a new, unknown skin. He helped break his own stereotype and accept his new conditions.
Anna Dymna devoted herself to helping others. Do you miss your youth?
She also has many awards and decorations to her credit, but since the mid-1980s she has appeared on the screen less and less. However, when he decides on a certain role, he stays in the memory of viewers for a long time. Recently, she appeared in the films “Zołza” or “Johnny” and the series “Wielka Woda”. When asked if she misses her youth, she replied:
NO. Every time brings something new. As a young actress, I kept hearing that I was so pretty, innocent, such an angel. How I look was usually more important than how I play. Today I feel free. I am not saying that aging is beautiful. I like to look at what is beautiful and young.
The actress decided to use the popularity she has enjoyed for years to help those in need and equalize their chances. Since 2003, she has been involved in charity work and is the president of the “Mimo Dobrze” Foundation. The organization mainly helps adults with intellectual disabilities.
