It was 1988. The 25th Sopot International Song Festival was in progress, one of the most important musical events in Poland, traditionally heralding the inevitably end of summer holidays for years. In addition to Polish celebrities, international ones also hosted the stage. One of them was Kim Wilde, then at the peak of her career. In 1988, she released the album “Close”, which was a huge success, and the artist herself was at the top of the charts. Her performance was therefore quite a surprise, but after all it was a jubilee festival. However, no one expected it to take an unexpected turn. During her concert at the Forest Opera, two men and a child entered the stage. they gave the singer bouquets of flowers, they also started waving the vinyls they had brought. The first bars of the song “Cambodia” started playing in the background and in theory the whole story should end with the men leaving the stage. However, this did not happen, and what happened later went down in the history of the festival.

Kim Wilde’s performance at the Sopot Festival has gone down in history. All thanks to two fans
Much to the surprise of Kim Wilde and her team, the two men decided to stay on stage. But they were not going to stand idly by. They began to dance and circle around the singer, who was patiently trying to pull away from them. A fan with a mustache and a pink T-shirt tried to persuade Kim Wilde to dance together, but eventually he began to dance himself and present an interesting choreography. The singer reacted with nervous laughter, and it was difficult to keep a straight face. Especially when at one point another fan came on stage with a bouquet of flowers, and one of the dancers without embarrassment in the middle of the song began asking her for an autograph. “I don’t think I’ve ever had such a problem in my life,” she concluded. Today, such a situation seems unthinkable, because security would appear on the stage faster than unwanted guests could say the name of their favorite star.
They entered the stage in Sopot and started dancing. One of them “stole the whole show”
Fragments of the unforgettable performance have been circulating on the Internet for many years, often with crude titles such as “Two Dummies and Kim Wilde” on YouTube. Interestingly, the films are popular not only among Polish fans. The clipping from Sopot even reached abroad.
I remember this concert live on TVP. I also bought a vinyl record, there was a queue for it. Beautiful times.
She fought so hard not to laugh.
The gentleman in the pink shirt stole the show, sorry Kim.
Such things happen only in Poland.
