“Napoleon”, dir. Ridley Scott
Soon (November 24, 2023), the latest film directed by Ridley Scott (“Aliens – Nostromo’s 8th Passenger”, “Gladiator”) will enter the cinemas, presenting the fate of the greatest military commander in the history of the world – Napoleon Bonaparte.
The main role in the show will be played by the Oscar-winning actor in the movie “Joker” (2019), Joaquin Phoenix. Also appearing on the screen are: Vanessa Kirby as Empress Josephine, Ben Miles as Caulaincourt, Ludivine Sagnier as Theresa Cabarrus and Catherine Walker as Marie Antoinette.

Collecting excellent reviews, “Oppenheimer” is another proposition that cannot be missed. The picture, directed by Christopher Nolan (“Inception”, “The Prestige”, “Dunkirk”), brings the story of the American scientist J. Robert Oppenheimer (in the title role of Cillian Murphy) – the creator of nuclear weapons, the director of the “Manhattan” program.

The best Polish historical productions are not only acting productions. In addition to older films, among which the most popular are films directed by Jerzy Hoffman (Ogniem i Mieczem, Deluge or Pan Wołodyjowski), it is also worth paying attention to newer titles, such as Katyn – The Last Witness 2017 or “An animated history of Poland” from 2010.

The story of General Maximus (played by Russell Crowe), who became famous as one of the most talented commanders of the Roman army. The man learns that he is to succeed the dying emperor, Marcus Aurelius (Richard Harris). This idea is opposed by the rightful heir, Commodus (Joaquin Phoenix), who decides to put Maximus and his family to death. The commander, however, escapes and is then taken prisoner. He soon becomes a gladiator and gains more and more popularity. Years later, the hero returns to Rome to avenge all the harm done to him by Commodus.
