José Luis Pérez Pastor, a councilor belonging to the Popular Party, announced that the name of the La Rioja library would be removed after describing it as a “poorly executed tribute”. “The regional and provincial libraries have the name of the region (…) and the best tribute that can be done to Almudena Grandes is to read it,” he explained.
In response to this decision, the general secretary of the PSOE of La Rioja, Concha Andreu, has expressed this Thursday her “enormous sadness” for the withdrawal of the name of Almudena Grandes of the regional library in Logroño, for “pure revenge and rancor” of the current regional Executive which is in the hands of the Popular Party.
“How does it benefit the people of La Rioja to remove the name? Not at all”stressed the former president of the regional government, who approved the naming of this cultural space in honor of Grandes during his tenure.
The PSOE policy has recalled that this decision was approved in 2021 by the Governing Council and was formalized in an act attended by “happy” family and husband, Luis García Montero, of the author, whose great-grandfather was from de Soto in Cameros (La Rioja), a town that Grandes visited a few years ago. “That grudge and this revenge is not known where it will go. La Rioja, of course, does not deserve this government or these attitudes”has also concluded the socialist senator.
