Bonnie Wright believes her character’s potential in Harry Potter was wasted: ‘I was frustrated’

Bonnie Wright hit the set when she was only 9 years old. Although her heroine was rather a supporting character, her appearance in the film series brought her great fame. However, the actress regrets that she did not have much influence on how her character developed. believes that Ginny Wealsey’s potential has not been fully realized.

Last Wednesday, August 30, a new episode of Inside of You with Michael Rosenbaum was released. The host invited to the studio, who during an hour-long conversation told about the behind-the-scenes work on the set of Harry Potter. Viewers heard, among other things, about the fears that the young actress had towards her film heroine.

“I definitely feel like I cared about my performance and doing my best as my character was formed. It was like, ‘Oh God, am I going to do justice to this character that people love? It’s always been difficult, especially when, inevitably, many scenes with each character were cut from the book and moved into the movies. So there really wasn’t that much to show in the movies.” – said the actress.

Bonnie Wright tried to give her best, although she didn’t have much room to show off. The actress confessed that during the casting process, she had to read part of the dialogue attributed to Hermione, because initially Ginny was not assigned any lines in the first Harry Potter movie. Later, Chris Columbus, the production director, decided to have Ginny appear in some dialogue. The creator allegedly told the actress: “I think you need a ruler.”

Bonnie Wirght wished her character’s storyline had been developed a bit more. When the right moment did not come, she became more and more disappointed.

“Some elements of the character just couldn’t be realized because there weren’t the right scenes. It made me feel a little anxious or just plain frustrated.” she confessed on the Inside of You podcast.
