Produce authorizes exploratory fishing of the marine resource parrot

He Ministry of Production (Produce) authorized the Institute of the Sea of ​​Peru (Imarpe) the execution of the exploratory fishing of the resource parakeet (Coryphaena hippurus) in the maritime field from September 1 to 30, 2023. Up to seven smaller-scale vessels specialized in extraction may participate in this activity.

Ministerial Resolution No. 000288-2023-PRODUCE, published this Thursday, August 31, establishes that shipowners who have a current fishing permit to operate artisanal vessels may participate, including those granted under Supreme Decree No. 006- 2016-PRODUCE.

In addition, it is considered that the total discharge of the catches made during this research activity will be counted as part of the Maximum Total Capture Limit (LMTC) established for the 2023-2024 mahi mahi fishing season.

It should be noted that fishing vessels that fail to comply with the provisions will be excluded from the research activity, and subsequently sanctioned in accordance with the provisions of Decree Law No. 25977, known as the General Fisheries Law. The administrative sanctioning procedure will be carried out in accordance with the guidelines established in the same Decree Law No. 25977, as well as in the Regulation of Inspection and Sanction of Fishing and Aquaculture Activities.
