The Cádiz-born writer Elvira Lindo has been recognized this Thursday with the Liber 2023 Award as Most Outstanding Hispanic American Author, decision taken by the Board of Directors of the Federation of Publishers Guilds of Spain (FGEE). With this award, the FGEE recognizes “his contribution to literature by creating characters rooted in social life that show the daily life of ordinary men and women”. Likewise, he highlights his permanent commitment to books and reading by bringing them closer to broad layers of society.
Born in Cádiz in 1962, Lindo began his professional career in the world of journalism after studying this career at the Complutense University of Madrid. In 1981 she began working at Radio Nacional de España, where she worked as a scriptwriter, announcer, commentator and presenter. In the scripts that she prepared for the radio, a character emerged, manolito glasses, with which he would start in the world of literature. Since the publication of the first book in the series, in 1994, it became a great success, which earned it the award, in 1998, of the National Prize for Children’s and Youth Literature.
His literary work includes the novels ‘El otro barrio’ (1998), ‘Something more unexpected than death’ (2003), which has been adapted for the stage, ‘Una palabra tuya’ (2005), winner of the Biblioteca Breve Award and Taken to the cinema by Ángeles González Sinde, ‘What remains to be lived’ (2010), ‘Places I don’t want to share with anyone’ (2011), ‘Sleepless Nights’ (2015), ‘With an open heart’ (2020) and his most recent novel ‘In the Wolf’s Den’ (2023).

Elvira Lindo has also delved into other literary genres such as theater with ‘La ley de la selva’ (1996), or her chronicles for ‘El País’ in ‘Tinto de verano’ (2001), ‘Another summer with you’ (2002 ), ‘Don de gentes’ (2011) and ’30 ways to take off your hat’ (2018). The writer has been a winner of the International Journalism Award in 2015. Likewise, in 2009 she received the prize from the Gremi d’Editors de Catalunya, she has also entered the world of cinema.

The delivery of these awards will take place on October 5 in the framework of the activities of the International Book Fair, Liber 2023, which this year is being held in Madrid. This year, more than 600 professionals from 63 countries have been selected, mainly from the two geographical areas that concentrate the bulk of exports: Europe (29 countries) and Latin America (21 countries), as well as the United States and Canada.
