On August 29, 2023, the singer turned 78 years old. Zdzisława Sośnicka was born in 1945. She took the charts by storm in the 1970s and 1980s. She is also a conductor and composer. She performed under the composer’s pseudonym Barbara Bajer. She made her debut in 1963 – performing at the Festival of Soviet Song in Zielona Górz. A moment later she became a finalist of the 2nd Festival of Young Talents in Szczecin. The rest of her stage career is a string of successes. Zdzisława Sośnicka went on concert tours not only throughout Poland, but also played many concerts in the United States.
The artist took full advantage of the opportunities that life presented to her. She was also fulfilled in love. She met her future husband when she was 18 years old. She and Jerzy Bajer met in one of the clubs in Poznań. In many subsequent interviews, she bluntly said that it was love at first sight – the kind that many people certainly dream of.
The lovers were inseparable, and the blooming feeling led them to the altar. The couple said the sacramental “yes” to each other in 1964. They’ve been inseparable ever since. They even worked together because Jerzy Bajer became the artist’s manager. Today they have been together for over 60 years! The couple live in a large house with a garden in Klarysew near Warsaw.
“Singing alone started to weigh me down”
Zdzisława Sośnicka suddenly withdrew from the proverbial spotlight and artistic creativity in the 90s. She once talked about the reasons for her decision in an interview with Onet:
Please believe me that all this is justified and makes sense. Singing alone started to have too much of an impact on my life, it started to weigh me down. I didn’t want to live in a house where I arrived one day only to leave the next. I started asking myself if I can be happy and live in harmony with myself without singing…
However, she returned to singing and creating music in 2014. First, an anthology of Sośnicka’s works was published, and in 2019, the artist’s new album “Dance, even though the world was on fire” saw the light of day. Romuald Lipko and Jacek Cygan, who was the author of the lyrics, participated in the work on the album. Some time later, however, the star decided to move back into the shadows.
“I was so envious of people sitting with their families”
The singer wanted to fully focus on her private life. Some time later, in an interview with Meloradi, she admitted that she regretted not having experienced motherhood – and it was one of her greatest dreams. Although she emphasized that she was very happy at the moment, she added that she did not feel 100 percent fulfilled. The star also confessed that once in her house a room was prepared for their future child. However, it remained empty.
From behind the windows of the bus, which I was going to the next concert, I watched the lit-up windows of houses and I envied people terribly that they were sitting with their families, and I was going somewhere again
– she said on Meloradia.
