The City Council of Talayuela (Cáceres), governed by PP, Vox and Extremeñistas, has censored the play “Mr. whore or the degradation of being” which was scheduled for October 28. This has been denounced by the producer and actress Irene Hernández and that she recognizes the consistory but explains the deprogramming because it is not suitable for minors.

This work, which won the Award from the Federation of Amateur Theater Associations of Extremadura (FATEX) several years ago, is the debut feature of D.Liria Producciones and explores the depths of human psychology, the gender violenceand more specifically, how a man fights against impulses that make him be cruel to women.

As Irene Hernández explained to EFE, the text premiered on March 4 in the municipality of Torrejoncillo in Cáceres “with great success and since then and with a lot of work, because we are a new producer, we had obtained the support of other municipalities“, among them the one from Talayuela, to put it back on stage. However, this Tuesday, according to the producer and actress, they received a call from the Department of Culture of Talayuela in which they were informed of the deprogramming of the work, contracted by the previous municipal corporation, of the PSOE, for not considering it suitable for the people of the town.” Then I told him what a disservice is done to culture in this way and that this was an obvious example of censorship, a circumstance that the municipal manager recognized for me,” he asserted.

For her part, Deputy Mayor Olga Bravo explained in a press release that they have decided to deprogram the work “due to its high violent content, as it contains rapes, murders and scenes that are not suitable for all audiences”, since the majority of those attending the theater performances in the town “are children accompanied by their parents and grandparents”. “How could it be otherwise, the government team respects freedom of expression and the free dissemination of thoughts, ideas and content in all areas, but also ensures the protection of minors”, the mayor points out in her letter.

The Minister of Culture, Tourism, Youth and Sports, Victoria Bazaga, has also spoken on the matter, who has indicated that the Talayuela City Council “is free to do what it wants” and it is he who must give timely explanations, while reiterating that the Extremaduran government, made up of PP and Vox, will not carry out “any type of cultural censorship”. The PSOE and United for Extremadura have considered what happened in Talayuela unacceptable and have criticized the cynicism of the president of Extremadura, María Guardiola, whom they accuse of not maintaining coherence between what she says and what she does
