Shakira becomes the first South American artist to receive the Video Vanguard award at the 2023 MTV Video Music Awards

Shakira will make history in the MTV Video Music Awards 2023 on September 12, when she becomes the first South American artist to receive the Video Vanguardia Award. The Colombian-born superstar becomes the second Latin artist to receive this important award. Born in the Bronx to Puerto Rican parents, Jennifer Lopez received the honor five years ago.

The VMA 2023 will be broadcast live from the Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey on Tuesday, September 12 at 8 p.m. Eastern and Pacific Time.
