Juanjo: ‘John Lennon’ lives on in 2023 thanks to the new single from Estella and La Madre Tirana

Cuenca has been the cradle of outstanding musical projects for several years, earning the attention of many followers of the Ecuadorian music scene. Estella (@estella.deagosto) is the artistic name of the work led by Sebastián Vásquez, who released a new single titled John Lennon last Friday, in the company of one of the most relevant bands in that city lately, La Madre Tirana. (@la_madre_tirana).

This kind of indie ballad pays homage to his name and tells of certain situations experienced by the legendary and eternal Beatle, which continue to inspire countless artists to this day. Walking around New York, taking the bed to work, taking pictures in the elevator, these are some of the acts mentioned, accompanied by a circle of chords that evoke the simple and emotional melodies of the artist who was murdered in 1980, around hands from a so-called fan.

The excellent production of the song also involves a character from Cuenca’s music scene, such as Leo Espinoza (@en.medio.de.la.nada), leader of the Letelefono group. He was in charge of shaping the song, making each instrumental line stand out in its own way.

From the critic’s point of view, the voice could have been a bit more powerful and lifted the spirits; however, this is in a personal opinion. It is more of a musical fantasy that does not detract from the work of these respected artists.

In mid-2023, the love for The Beatles is still latent, that epic English group where Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr are still active, but who lost George Harrison and John Lennon a few decades ago; However, thanks to productions like this, we know that they have not gone out of style, have not stopped sounding and continue to motivate many more people to live by the lyrics of many of their songs.
