Andrzej Precigs dropped out of his studies after the first year to pursue acting. The children did not follow in his footsteps

On August 26, 2023, he died at the age of 74. He has had many roles in both movies and series. The most popular include “Far from the highway”, “Doll”, “The secret of Enigma”, “07 report back” or . He also fulfilled himself as a dubbing director and was active in politics. In the last years of his life he struggled with a chronic disease.

Passion and interests, however, were not what he was supposed to do professionally. Family tradition dictated that Precigs get a solid education that would secure him a well-paying job and thus financial stability. For this reason, after graduating from a private high school for boys, he continued his education in Polish philology at the University of Warsaw. After the first year, however, he realized that this was not the path he wanted to follow. When he managed to get an index of the acting department of the Lodz Film School, he quit his studies and left the capital to make his dreams come true. It was within the walls of the university that he met his future wife, Katarzyna. – I was supposed to be a teacher, but I gave it up and went to study in Lodz. I met my wife there.

Shortly after graduating from college in 1972, the couple got married. “After several decades, history repeated itself,” he said at the time. Why? It turns out that the fate of his parents was similar. Father, Jan Precigs, was a well-known opera singer, but before starting his career, he trained as an accountant. When he discovered his vocal skills and talent, he abandoned a stable profession to study at the Academy of Music in Łódź. “That’s where he met my mother,” the artist recalled.

Andrzej and Katarzyna Precigs devoted the first years of their marriage to developing their careers and gaining experience in the profession. Initially, they lived in Tarnów, where the actor worked at the Teatr im. Ludwik Solski. He also appeared regularly on the screen, playing in films and series, including m.in. in “Nowhere to Nowhere”, “Far from the Road” or “The Doll”. They decided to enlarge the family only in the second half of the 1980s. Their firstborn daughter Natalia was born in 1987, and soon after their second child, Emilia, appeared in the world.

Precigs has always emphasized that family is the greatest value for him. He took this pattern from home and tried to pass it on to his children as well.

I know that if it wasn’t for my family, I wouldn’t be where I am now. If life had turned out differently, if there were no people with whom I am all this time, because it is thanks to them that I also exist somehow

The older one graduated in economics, while the younger one works as a sociologist. Already during their studies, they went abroad on scholarships. There they met their husbands and decided to settle down permanently. “Unfortunately, the girls live a thousand miles away and it hurts because we would like to see them every day,” Precigs said.
