Currently located between the United States and Ecuador, the singer Juan Ferdinand Velasco celebrates the release of his new song my friend the pain and the promotional music video, in which he appears with his wife, the model Denisse Íñiguez, to whom he has been married for a year and a half.

In an interview with this newspaper, the interpreter said of bye lola tells us more details about the premiere and his life abroad.

You signed with Sony Music Publishing in 2021, what does this alliance mean for your musical career?

It was something really nice. Imagine being an artist, songwriter and author for Sony Music Publishing, probably the largest publisher in the world and it has given me access to certain things that are important to a songwriter and songwriter. This approval opens doors and puts you in another place as well.

You were also on tour at the beginning of 2022, how does your audience continue to receive you?

I was in Colombia and it was incredible, I’m really surprised by the long shelf life of my songs, because I keep seeing a young and new audience interested in my music, because they might have heard something new from me on the radio and then they started looking for my previous productions. But it often happens to me that my songs are played on the radio all the time and my career does not depend on me having something new, but there are songs that are going around there. So that feeling for the audience, live, is always nice.

What is it about My friend the pain?

From the title it seems that it is a typical song of mine, very painful and ‘dagger’, but rather optimistic, as well as all the elements in it, including the instrumentation. And it’s a song that talks about how sometimes the obstacles to building healthy, non-toxic, and lasting relationships lie within yourself. It is these fears that play tricks on us, but it is up to us to break through those barriers.

Who accompanies you in the video?

We shot it in Miami and it’s also a very candid video, just like the song itself. There is no story, but moments. And it’s my first time doing something with my wife, she appears with me in the video and is a professional model and can be seen in videos of Bad Bunny, Anuel, Maluma.

She told you she wanted to show up…

He told me he wanted to be in a video of me and that made me a little nervous because I already have the nerves of being on set because I’m not very good at videos or photos. But it was good, she helped me with her experience, although there is still a terrible experience between how she looks on camera and how she moves and me.

What other music genres would you like to explore further?

I never consider delving into a specific genre. Everything is somewhat a result of circumstances, as in the case of My friend hurt where the arrangements respond to the lyrics of the song, to its style.

Do you follow today’s emerging national artists closely and what do you think of Ecuador’s new musical generation?

I see that there are a lot of new artists, although I can’t keep up with them all, mainly because you have to be connected to social networks a lot and that sometimes escapes me. I clearly identified Mar (Rendón) well, Álex Ponce, Javier Neira, Toño (Navarrete), I also recently met Jandino on a radio and he showed me his song and I asked him to keep in touch. And I forget others I do follow. I am always interested in being connected to the music of my country.

What can we expect from Juan Fernando Velasco in the coming months?

I will advertise all the time, including in other countries. I hope we can make one show in Ecuador before the end of the year, even though the country is shaking off all the violence and uncertainty in which we are submerged. Hopefully there will be better days, with more peace. I’m optimistic and I believe it will be and we can do more next year shows in Ecuador. For the time being, until the end of the year, I have planned a tour of Colombia and I hope that it will also expand to the United States.
