The San Sebastian Festival will award a Donostia Award to Víctor Erice

Victor Erice will receive a Donostia Award at the 71st edition of the San Sebastian Film Festival. After the one granted to the Spanish actor Javier Bardemthe honorary award for the Biscayan director is the second announced by this year’s Zinemaldia.
The honorary award of the festival comes just when the 50th anniversary of the Golden Shell that he won The spirit of doomhis first feature film. Ana Torrentwho acted in that film when he was only six years old, repeats with Erice in his new film, Close the eyesand will be in charge of delivering the award.
With only four feature films (in addition to those mentioned, The South and the quince sun), has won a Golden Shell, a Silver Shell for best director and the International Critics and Jury Award at Cannes, among others.
The Zinemaldia highlights that Erice joins other filmmakers whose contribution to this art is indisputable and who began to award the Donostia Prize six years ago, such as Agnès Varda, Hirokazu Kore-eda, Costa-Gavras and David Cronenberg.
The festival will also offer Close the eyes, a film “about memory spun around an unfinished film and the mysterious disappearance of an actor”. It has already passed through Cannes and Toronto. The film will be released in commercial theaters on the same day the honorary award is presented.
