Rapeseed sowing date. Why is it so important?

In order for winter rapeseed to grow beautifully, luxuriantly and healthily, the right sowing date is important. Too late may prevent it from developing enough to survive the winterand even if she succeeds, the harvest will not be very abundant. When to sow winter rape? It depends on several factors

The date for sowing winter oilseed rape was established more than 50 years ago and has hardly changed since then. It is worth knowing that it depends to a large extent on several factors, including the region and its specificity as well as climatic conditions. For this reason, it varies depending on the region of the country. Rapeseed is sown earliest in the north-eastbecause its vegetation is the shortest there, so you can get to it now from 5 to 10 August.

When to sow rapeseed in the rest of the country? The delay may be no more than 7 days

Going further, in the south-west direction, it’s good to wait a bit. It has therefore been assumed that for the rest of the country the best date is usually August 15-25, although sometimes it happens that sometimes the sowing lasts even until the beginning of September. It is worth remembering that a delay of up to 7 days is not of great importance, but it is better not to delay longer, as it may even lead to the destruction of crops. It largely depends on what it will be like. In the case of relatively “warm”, even rapeseed sown after September 5 may have a chance for stable yields. Still, it’s not worth the risk.
