More than one person has run away from a wasp – or a whole lot of them. They fly willingly wherever we try to eat a meal or drink something in peace. They annoy and at the same time evoke a sense of fear of being stung. That is why many people are frustrated with them. Because how to chase them away so as not to get attacked?
Store-bought methods are inhumane and cost a bit
We can buy a whole lot of different products in stores that are supposed to fight wasps. These are various types of sprays, traps, sticky notes or insecticidal lamps that literally burn everything that touches them. All of these methods are not particularly humane, as they require either premeditated killing of the wasps or beating them until they die of their own accord. Plus, you have to spend some money on them.
And why fire up a murderous instinct when these intruders can be effectively scared off? Thanks to this, we will avoid the stress associated with their mere presence, and in addition, we will not contribute to the disruption of the food chain. After all, even wasps contribute to maintaining the balance in nature.
How to repel wasps?
Wasps are very territorial insects. They value their own territories and respect the borders of their neighbors, including those of other species. Therefore, it will be perfect to create an imitation of another insect’s nest, preferably one that inspires respect not only among wasps, but also – and perhaps above all – among people. Anyone who has had a close encounter with a hornet knows that it is not pleasant.
You don’t need much to make an imitation of its nest. A simple paper bag is enough, for example the one we pack bread in a store. We fill it with any filling (it can be crumpled paper bags or cards or balls of foil), tie it at the top with a string in a similar color, give the whole thing a shape similar to a hornet’s nest and hang it near the places where we spend most of our time. An example of such an artificial nest appeared some time ago on , and another is in our gallery at the top of the article.
It is true that we do not guarantee 100% success – after all, insects have their own ways to get to our cake or drink. However, judging by the opinions of people who have tried this patent, it is definitely worth testing. It is super simple and super cheap, and maybe it will allow us to drink coffee without fear and enjoy a quiet afternoon.
