It reaches a length of 11 to 35 mm and is characterized by a black or blue-black carapace with a sheen. In Poland, oleica fudge can be found in forests, meadows, roadsides and fallow lands. It is considered a dangerous insect because in stressful situations it produces an oily yellow liquid that contains a strong toxin, cantharidine. Cantharidin was once used as a poison. It stimulates the nerve endings and mucous membranes of the genitourinary system. The lethal dose is 0.03 g.
