On August 28, 1998, a Saidel Brito A recent graduate of the Higher Institute of Art in Havana, he arrived at Mariscal Sucre International Airport on a flight that seemed to take forever. Relatives called him with concern from Cuba when they heard that a plane on the same route, Havana to Quito, had had a tragic accident. Chance led him to move to Guayaquil, where he finally decided to settle. Two years later, she gave birth to her firstborn and began to win the eyes and hearts of the society, who fell in love with her talent in fine arts. They called him ‘the great’, his works became popular and eventually in Ecuador he saw the opportunity to position himself as one of the most important contemporary artists in the city of Buenos Aires.

Brother City It would be his most recent and personal series collecting works he made in Ecuador during these 25 years. “It is a present for my arrival. It contains some pieces as a summary of a series of researches that have been carried out throughout my career,” explains the artist.
In the exhibition there are two precious portraits that the author saved. They are two drawings he made when he was 15 years old and since he found them they have been kept as part of his private collection. The drawings are called Paul I and Paul II.
In the exhibition present in the gallery of the Guayaquil Country Club and valid until August 30, there are also several nuclei of his work, in different geographies and different historical processes, from his point of view as a Latin American artist . “For me, the art is to be attentive, alert to what I see, to what I love, to the readings of the press. I can get references from Netflix, from a novel, from a conversation. For me, art is the way I translate my living experience”tells.

Bringing all his work together in a cohesive exhibition was to bring together different historical references, which seem to make no sense or have nothing to do with each other and from which contact zones and a new imaginary world are born. “My work has somehow been protected by those highly politicized companies of high modernism that overlaid their ideological background with overflowing brush strokes, gestures and calligraphic blotches,” he indicates.
The series explores the expressive capacities contained in these types of images, where propaganda and the political poster are distorted by the pictorial inquiry itself and with the rhetorical games contained within these visuals.
