Anna Kowal (I read): Have you returned from the playgrounds yet? Now bath, dinner and bedtime? Or maybe read to your kids first Fairy Tales by Natalie Portman (Sign)? The famous actress decided to tell children around the world three classic fairy tales – “The Turtle and the Hare”, “The Three Pigs” and “Field Mouse” and “House Mouse” – as she tells them to her son and daughter at bedtime. In her version, the stories have not only timeless message, but also references to the present day: The Hare is bragging about a trendy tracksuit, one of the Pigs is eating Chinese takeout while the other is taking care of the planet, and House Mouse is trying to get the Field Mouse to a party. Thanks to such a modernization of the fairy tale, children will certainly be more interested. The author of the charming illustrations is Janna Mattia, and the translation – Michał Rusinek.
Ryszard Kozik (read): The comics in the series are nice and funny Arlo and Pips by Elise Gravel from our bookstore. Arlo is an American crow who in “The King of Birds” moves from the forest to a big city, where he meets a little yellow bird. He becomes her guide. Arlo is very self-confident, he has a high self-esteem. It’s not entirely unreasonable, because he is indeed a savvy bird and has a great collection of shiny items. In “Kra, kra, massacre”, however, he meets a crow girl who is even smarter than him. Marla can play tic-tac-toe and knows a lot of human words, such as rococo, azalea and quintessence. Arlo falls in love with her … How the fate of the crow couple turned out, we will find out from the next volume of the series “Love will do everything for you”. The comics are very funny, and apart from the nice plot, they also contain a large dose of ornithological knowledge about crows. Our girls will surely like them.
Anna: How many times a day do you answer your children’s questions: why? What for? What does it mean…? How it’s working? I’m sure none of you can count it. A similar situation happened to my mother, a small and very curious tomcat. “Mommy, how big is the world?” Sabine Bohlmann and Emilia Dziubak (Our Bookstore) is a touching story about children’s curiosity. The kitten wants to find out what the world is like – is it wide, tall or deep? Is it everywhere, or does it only reach up to a large armchair? The questions don’t end, and the kitten is getting more and more tired. But there’s still one thing bothering him… what? Get the book to find out.
Marta Korycka (marta_korycka_): Questions also appear in the new series about Tarmosi from Agora publishing house for children. Together with my children, we really like the first book about this badger, and now Tomasz Samojlik and Ania Grzyb they created two parts for the little ones. “Little Tarmosia. What’s squeaking in the hole?” and “Little Tarmosia. Do badgers play” are released on August 23, so you still have time to take them on holiday trips. Samojlik – a biologist, and also m. the creator of comics about Żubr Pomponik takes us to the forest and tells cool, warm stories.
Richard: “Cake Adventure” (Two Sisters) is a search engine The Tjong-Khing, illustrator of the best-selling series about Felek and Tola. Bunny has a birthday today! There is a queue of guests with gifts right now. Until suddenly… Mrs. Pieska’s chair falls into a freshly baked cake, and the birthday girl bursts into tears. In addition, Mrs. Prosińska loses a valuable necklace… Does a chameleon sneaking behind the houses have anything to do with it? Raccoon? Or mice, notorious robbers? One thing’s for sure: this birthday will be unlike any other!
Anna: Do your children like books with opening windows? Surely! Especially that there are often surprises behind the windows. You will certainly be surprised more than once when opening 50 windows while reading “On a journey. My first Polish-English encyclopedia” by Agnieszka Żelkowska (Our Bookstore) and additionally the youngest learn vocabulary related to travel – names of places, items needed for travel, means of transport and many other trifles (more than 200 words in total!). The perfect book to take on vacation.
Richard: “Dong Who Has a Glowing Nose and Other Poems by Mr. Lear” (Two Sisters) with lyrics Edward Lear is a classic of English nonsense poetry with Bohdan Butenko’s masterful and funny illustrations! Who is Akond of Skwak? Is Such Something from the country of Dżolibolibo a fish, an insect, a mammal or a bird? Why did the man from Bombassa wear heels? You will learn neither of these nor many other things from this book. You will find it for that poetic absurdity and childish carelessness, a lot of tenderness and a bit of melancholy – and many eccentric heroes. Lear’s poems were written in the 19th century, Butenko’s illustrations are over 60 years old, but Dong does not age!
Anna: “Goodnight Bear” by Monica Philippines (Our Bookstore) is a lovely story about a very tired bear who would like to sleep more than anything in the world, but he is constantly disturbed by noises. Someone is working in a sawmill, someone is doing a big laundry, and there are singing, pattering and other frolics. One by one, the bear checks who keeps him awake and asks everyone in the forest to be happy. But will other animals listen to the little bear? See for yourself if your little one can take a nap.
Richard: I recommend the book Billy and the Strange Day by Birgitta Stenberg (Nooks and crannies). Billy dreams that he is driving a red pedal car similar to the one he saw in a toy store. When he wakes up, he remembers it’s his birthday. Maybe he will get his dream car as a gift today? Unfortunately, the package from his mother is far too small, and everyone else seems to have forgotten his birthday … Nooks and crannies resume the highly successful series about Billy To very funny and well illustrated stories from the life of this little boy.
Ryszard: You should also take a book with you on holiday “I can draw vehicles” by Adelina Sandecka (Dot). It will be a great opportunity for little lovers of the automotive industry to have fun and develop manual skills at the same time. For drawing and coloring together with parents or for independent play.
Marta: A book is also suitable for a trip with a small child “Jano and Wito are going by car” by Wiola Wołoszyn and Przemysław Liput (Mamania). During a visit to a car wash or a gas station, they will learn, among others: basic safety rules.
Anna: Marcin is the hero of a new series of books published by ToTamto. The latest one is titled “In front of the screen”. Marcin is four and a half years old. He likes candy, dinosaurs, building pillow forts and computer games. He has a younger sister, Zojka. His dad is a teacher who loves spending time at home cooking for his family. Marcin’s mother works long hours in a large environmental company. Adults spend a lot of time in front of screens, but Marcin does not allow it. Mom says he should find other jobs. Easy to say! Maybe Grandpa Kłaczek will be able to remedy this? According to him, screens can even help with this … The series also includes books “Time to sleep”, “I don’t like it!” and “The Lost Teddy”.
Ryszard: I also found an abundance of summer reading for toddlers among the new products published by Harper Kids. They will be useful both when traveling and in rainy weather or in the evening, before bedtime. There are titles from the series here “100 Stickers”: “My Little Pony”, “Thomas and Friends” and “CoComelon” (a popular channel with songs for children), “crayon books” – “Bing”, “CoComelon”, “Thomas and Friends”, “The Smurfs”. There is also another volume of adventures of a very nice and smart girl – “Basia and the mysteries of the universe. Microbes” and books in the series “The Wise Child Academy. Water adventures” – “Dinosaurs”, “Unicorns” and “Nature”. Inside you will find not only a brush for painting with water, but also interesting tasks/riddles.
Marta: Fans of the wise and interesting animation “Bluey” (Disney+) will surely be pleased that the same publishing house releases cardboard books about its heroes. Back in August “Meet Bluey” and “Meet Bingo”books will be available in the fall. with stickers.
Anna: And for dessert – mermaids! It is always worth packing a puzzle into a bag, backpack or suitcase. Those from Czzu have small, comfortable boxes, come in different sizes and on different levels of difficulty. Today we recommend “Magic Puzzle.
