McKayla, a resident of the American state of Kentucky, claims that she fell victim to a fraudster who persuaded her to divorce her husband and transfer $ 10,000 to the account he indicated. According to the woman’s account, the person claimed to be one of the actors of “Stranger Things”. The woman’s lover was allegedly Dacre Montgomery, who played the role of Billy Hargrove in the popular Netflix series.

The scammer pretended to be a famous actor

The woman met a scammer impersonating an actor from “Stranger Things” on one of the online forums. She talked to him for over a year, until one day the said person proposed to her a romantic relationship. The problem is that Dacre Montgomery has been associated with model Liv Pollock since 2017. This fact, however, did not make the woman anxious.

McKayla, in turn, was married, but as she admitted in a published , her relationship with her husband was toxic. So the woman decided to leave the man for a person claiming to be a famous actor. However, this is not the end. The scammer also tricked her into transferring $10,000, claiming that his girlfriend controlled all of his bank accounts and he had no access to them. So McKayla sent the “actor” the said amount in various forms, for example, gift cards and cryptocurrencies.

Catfishing is the act of impersonating someone else online. The scammer uses a fictitious character or a false identity for this purpose.
