María Isabel Sánchez Vegara is an experienced author who has already worked with such people as Pablo Picasso, Frida Kahlo, Marilyn Monroe and . Although, the writer never runs away from difficult topics in them. In simple words, he tries to describe what may seem too complicated to children.
Vegara’s latest book is a continuation of the series known in Poland as “Little Great”. Describing her biography, the author also referred to eating disorders. We are talking primarily about bulimia, with which Princess Diana fought for many years. María Isabel Sánchez Vegara wrote on one of the sites:
“Whenever she felt lonely, she sought solace by eating all the cakes she could find in the royal kitchens. But that sweet feeling of comfort didn’t last long. Once that passed, she tried to get rid of all the food she had eaten, causing her to vomit.”
According to the independent.co.uk daily, there is a fragment in the later part of the book in which the author praises Princess Diana for speaking openly about her illness and seeking help. “It took her some time to seek help, learn to love herself, and stop hurting her body,” writes Vegara. The passages referring to Diana’s illness, however, caused concern in one of the psychiatrists. Speaking to dailymail.co.uk, Dr Max Pemberton said:
“I have mixed feelings about whether such information should be included in a children’s book. It seems right that Diana’s struggles with the disease should be included in a book about her life. But there is always a risk that including such details may unwittingly introduce the idea into children’s heads.”
Psychologist Dr. Omar Naseem has a different opinion on this subject, who in an interview with independent.co.uk praised the author for raising this issue in a book dedicated to the youngest readers.
“The book will help to normalize conversations about these issues… Young people can feel better knowing that they are not the only ones struggling with these issues.” – He said.
