Noisy, emotional and sometimes compelling, like any Latin American family. Blue beetleDC Studios’ new movie, successfully captures the day-to-day life and flavor of a Latino home, as well as the fun personalities of its members.

Their two hours long (with two post-credits scenes) be justified by a decent origin film for a superhero new to audiences, but with a story so well supported it doesn’t need guests or cameos to stand out.

The adventure begins when Jaime Reyes (Xolo Maridueña) goes to Kord Industries, invited by Jennifer Kord (Bruna Marquezine), hoping to find a job. Instead, you will find that it is your destiny to be a superhero.

Yes OK, As in other films of the genre, the ultimate goal is to stop the villain’s plans. – in this case interpreted by Susan Sarandon (Victoria Kord)—, there are other elements that enrich it and that the Latin American audience in particular will enjoy.

Who is Xolo Maridueña, the Ecuadorian blooded star of ‘Cobra Kai’ and now the superhero Blue Beetle in the new DC movie

From minute 1, Puerto Rican director Ángel Manuel Soto wants to get us excited about the soundtrackwhich will range from Calle 13, through Los Panchos, Selena Quintanilla and up to Soda Estéreo (yes, get ready to hear Cerati on the big screen!).

Another pleasant surprise for Ecuadorians will be to find in the cast of Blue beetle to the actor Damian Alcazarwho was part of the movie in 2004 Chroniclesby the Quito director Sebastián Cordero.

The dreaded Babahoyo monster (his character in it Chronicles) this time will be the concerned and loving Mr. Reyes, who has worked all his life to provide a better future for his familyincluding getting his oldest son, Jaime (Maridueña), to graduate from college. The first in his family to do this!

Economic hardship and tragedy – as it happens in real life – are very close to the hearts of the Reyes family, but not above their joy, moments of unity and strength. “There will be a time to cry, but now is not the time”wisely shares the matriarch, dear (but not defenseless) grandmother Nana (Adriana Barraza).

With the armor already fused to Jaime’s body, You will also be surprised to hear the English voice of singer and actress Becky G as Khaji-Dathe presence of the beetle that will guide the protagonist in his first clumsy fights, until finally Jaime fully accepts the super power he has been given.

In addition to listening to various Latino artists, the references to domestic customs and Mexican television programs will cause more than one laugh, though I personally smiled (with great longing and nostalgia) in the second post-credits scene. How good does it feel to be Latina!

From left: Milagro (Belissa Escobedo), Elpidia Carrillo (Jaime’s mom), Bruna Marquezine (Jenny Kord), Adriana Barraza (Nana), and George Lopez (Uncle Rudy).
