Composer Agustín González García de Acilu dies at 94 years of age

The composer Agustin Gonzalez Garcia de Aciluconsidered one of the most important Spanish musical figures of the second half of the 20th century and winner of the Príncipe de Viana Award in 2009, has died at the age of 94.
With this Prince of Viana of Culture, recognition was given to one of the most significant musical composers of his timewith a great work also as an educator and musical trainer.
Gonzalez was born in Altsasu in 1929. In 1958 he won the Prize for Counterpoint and Fugue. He met Fernando Remacha, director of the Pamplona Conservatory, who encouraged him to apply for scholarships from the Príncipe de Viana Institution.
Thanks to this extraordinary help, he was integrated into European musical life in Paris, Venicewith a grant from the Italian government, and Rome. The presence of his friend, the architect Rafael Moneo, was essential on these trips. They listened to, among others, Umberto Eco, Giulio Carlo Argan, Diego Fabbri or Eduardo Sanguinetti.
Throughout his career, he was awarded numerous times, among which stands out the National Music Award in 1971, which was awarded again in 1998 in recognition of a lifetime dedicated to composition and the real significance of his production in the music landscape of our time.
