Years ago, he caused an accident in which his friend’s daughter died. The consequences of this tragedy weighed heavily on his conscience for decades.

In the following years, he made “Katarynka”, “Until the break 0:1”, “Holidays with ghosts” or “Vest”. The director’s wife was actress Joanna Jędryka for 5 years. However, the marriage did not have children of its own, and their relationship eventually ended in divorce, which Jędryka regretted for the rest of his life. It has been speculated that this is why he was so concerned about the fate of the young adepts of art he cast in his productions.

The accident cast a shadow over his life. He never forgave himself for the death of a child

Although Jędryka was considered a cheerful man, he hid great suffering in his heart and it was not only related to the separation from his wife. In December 1959, he went to his hometown for Christmas in his new lottery-winning P-70. His wife was sitting in the passenger seat, while sports journalist Ryszard Dyja, with whom he was a private friend, and his 7-year-old daughter were sitting in the back seat. The road conditions were not very good, it was snowing, the asphalt was icy. At some point, the vehicle skidded.

Jędryka was put on trial for manslaughter, for which he received a one-year sentence suspended for three years. For decades, he had no contact with the deceased’s parents, they held a grudge against him, blamed him for the tragedy. He himself admitted that he could not look himself in the eye for a long time. Reconciliation with the child’s mother was reportedly made only during Ryszard Dya’s funeral.
