Weronika Ksią¿kiewicz on the film “Fuck Mickiewicz”: It will not be a laurel for the school [WYWIAD]

The last few years were undoubtedly fat for Weronika Ksią¿kiewicz. She played in three high-profile productions, and soon there will be another film in cinemas that can shake public opinion. In “Fuck Mickiewicz, or the best years” she plays Irena – a school superintendent and mother of one of the main characters, who causes a lot of trouble at school. “I am impressed by how bold this script is,” announces Ksią¿kiewicz in an interview for Gazeta.pl.

Weronika Książkiewicz, after brilliant roles in “Furioza”, “Return to those days” and “Hercules”, became involved in another film, which is announced as showing the real realities of the Polish school. In “Fuck Mickiewicz, or the best years” the main characters are primarily students of the rebellious class 2B, but their fates cannot change if not for the adults involved in their lives.

One of such people is a new Polish teacher – Jan Sienkiewicz (Dawid Ogrodnik), but also Irena (Weronika Książkiewicz), who teaches the environment at school and is a curator. It turns out that these two have gotten to know each other well in the past, and their meeting after many years will make their fates no longer the same. In addition, Irena is also the mother of Nel (Wiktoria Koprowska) – the girl of the biggest bully in school.

Weronika Książkiewicz about her character: As a teacher, I am strict, and as a mother, I am warm

“When it comes to being a teacher, I’m quite strict, but that’s because my character is in an uncool life situation. That’s what gives her frustrations. When it comes to mother-daughter relationships, I think my character is very warm understanding and good as a mother” – said Weronika Książkiewicz. However, when asked about associations with another role as a mother in the film “Back to Those Days”, she replied that she did not feel any connections between these characters.

“I am delighted that this script is very brave. It shows what the youth are like, what language they use among themselves, and we do not make it polite in any way. We show one to one what it looks like in reality,” added the actress. However, she mentioned that it is not allowed to generalize what education in Poland looks like in general, and the film shows the kind of situation in schools that also takes place.

Talking to the actress, I couldn’t help but ask her about “Furioza”, which was an international Netflix hit. Książkiewicz jokingly stated that “Pieprzyć Mickiewicza” would not be as strong as the one about the world of fans, adding that some of the film students are predisposed to later be in a group like Furioza. In the conversation, she also talked about whether anything began to change in her professional path after participating in this project:

I didn’t feel like I was sacrificing myself for the role at all. I was very happy to have such an opportunity, for which I feel very grateful. In addition, other proposals began to come to me (…), but somehow my life has not changed dramatically “- summed up Książkiewicz.

What is “Fuck Mickiewicz, or the best years” about?

“It’s a film about young people and for young people, largely created by them. It’s a film story about friendship, love, rebellion, that is about youth, which also has to make its way up. The great advantage of this film, apart from experienced actors, is the young cast, fresh , unknown faces. Thanks to them and their personalities, we try to create an authentic world of high school students, “said the film’s director Sara Bustamante-Drozdek in an interview with the portal.

In addition to Weronika Książkiewicz, we will also see Dawid Ogrodnik, Joanna Liszowska, Aldona Jankowska, Paulina Zwierz and debutants on the big screen: Hugo Tarres, Wiktoria Koprowska, Ada Grodzka, Aleksandra Izydorczyk, Artur Gwizdak, Igor Pawłowski and Krystian Embradora. The premiere of the film “Fuck Mickiewicz, or the best years” is planned for 2024. The film was financially supported by the Polish Film Institute.
