It was February 2009. Winter has taken over the surrounding hills, covering them with a thick layer of snow. The days were short, typical for this time of year, and the temperature dropped enough that the inhabitants of Siedliska spent time in their homes. Suddenly, the calm of the local community was broken by the news of a series of three murders, which took place in three neighboring houses, located slightly apart.

They killed for alcohol money. They chose single people as victims
A series of homicides took place between February 13 and 17, 2009 in Siedliska-Bogusz. 20-year-old Krzysztof Rogus, a carpenter who graduated from primary school, and 26-year-old Dawid Pędzik, a cook by profession, had problems with the law. Both had previously been convicted. When they appeared in a village located in the Podkarpackie Voivodeship, they decided to attack people living alone. According to the indictment, the first victim of their actions was 33-year-old Krzysztof K., who was the husband of the sister of the accused Krzysztof Rogus. The second of the perpetrators confessed to having an affair with the wife, with whom the victim was in the process of divorcing. The accused entered his home and then drank alcohol together. When the 33-year-old fell asleep, the men decided to rob and murder him. First, they stunned the sleeping Krzysztof K. with a three-kilogram sledgehammer, hitting the temple area twice, then started the motor saw and cut off his head. After searching the pockets of the murdered man and stealing 100 zlotys, they bought vodka, then returned home and started drinking alcohol in the next room, dancing, having fun with the TV on and joking. But they didn’t stop at one.
The men chose the inhabitants of neighboring houses as their next target. Two days later, they broke into the house of 75-year-old Aniela K., who lived alone, and was a relative of the first victim. After the woman gave them all her savings (PLN 2.5 thousand), the torturers raped her with particular cruelty and beat her to death, hitting her head with a hammer. The next day, the men knocked on the door of 78-year-old Zofia N., asking for water. When the old woman opened the door, they overpowered her and tied her with an electric cable and took one thousand zlotys. Dawid Pędzik and Krzysztof Rogus killed her with an ax to the head.
Pędzik and Rogus showed no remorse. The judge had no doubts about the verdict
The perpetrators were apprehended shortly after the social worker discovered the third victim’s body, and then the police found her neighbors. During the investigation, both men pleaded guilty to all the charges against them. At first, however, they tried to explain themselves by forgetting. Both had previous problems with the law, Pędzik had 12 previous convictions for various crimes, and Rogus had been convicted as a minor for attempted murder. Their trial lasted less than two weeks. On April 1, 2010, in the District Court in Rzeszów, Dawid Pędzik and Krzysztof Rogus were sentenced to life imprisonment. Judge Piotr Popek agreed to give their names and show their faces, and in the justification, according to , he said:
These were coldly planned and cruelly carried out executions. The accused had no remorse. People’s lives meant nothing to them. They killed and then covered their tracks: they burned blood-stained shoes, threw away the murder weapons, and locked their houses to hide their crimes as long as possible. […] People need to be protected from people like you.
He also noted that both defendants deserved eliminatory penalties and that society should be protected from them. According to the court, a life sentence for all “their achievements” is the most appropriate. The court also ruled that Rogus could apply for parole after 45 years and Pędzik after 40.
