Pampas grass is a perennial from the tufted group. How should they be cared for? We suggest when to plant it and how to care for it so that it is a beautiful decorative element in our garden.

It is otherwise called cortaderia or silvery eyelet. It comes from the steppes of South America and is willingly grown in Polish gardens. How to care for it so that it grows beautifully and healthily?

When to plant pampas grass? Don’t miss the deadline and it will bloom until December

Due to the fact that cortaderia comes from a different climate, it requires a lot of work to grow beautifully in Polish conditions. Pampas grass from cuttings from April to September, however, the best time to transplant into the ground is the spring period, because thanks to this the plant will have time to acclimatize and adapt to new conditions. Pampas grass requires fertile, slightly acidic and humus soil and a very sunny position. If we plant it in the shade or partial shade, it can start to languish. At the end of summer, white fluffy plumes appear on the plant, which last even until December. We should also remember that pampas grass does not like stagnant water, as this can lead to rotting of the roots and dying. Cortaderia should not grow near water reservoirs, and the ideal position will be an area with a slight slope.

Pampas grass can grow up to 2 meters and grows relatively quickly. You can also plant it in pots, but remember to hide the plant indoors for the winter. Preferably in a cool room, where the temperature will not be higher than 10 degrees Celsius.
