Another “horror receipts”. In these places you even have to pay for a piece of toast

An extra plate for the child or cutting the toast in half? You’re welcome – but it’s 2 euros. Or at least in some Italian restaurants – in Finale Ligure and Lake Como in northern Italy. The whole thing caused a media buzz, and there were also a lot of comments from indignant Internet users.

Additional fees, which may seem abstract to some tourists, are covered by foreign media, including genovatoday.it and news.italy24.press. It turns out that in some Italian restaurants you have to pay even for an extra plate for a child or cutting a piece of toast in half.

The receipt even included an extra plate for the baby

According to the Italian media via RMF24, a woman went with her daughter to the Finale Ligure restaurant. After she finished her meal and received the receipt, however, she noticed that there was even an extra plate she had asked for so that her three-year-old daughter could try her dish. The fee was 2 euros (almost 9 zlotys).

– Liguria. A plate of trofie with pesto costs 18 euros. Mom asks for an extra plate so that the three-year-old, who has already eaten, can try her dish. For something like this, they add 2 euros to her bill – writes on X (former Twitter) the Italian journalist Selvaggia Lucarelli. Considering the comments section, Internet users do not hide their indignation. “Can you imagine it? Because somehow I can’t fit in my head”, “The scandal is not only the fee for the plate, but even the price of the water itself!” – we read in the comments under the journalist’s entry.

You also pay to cut the toast in half

Considering the situation at the bar on Lake Como, one could say that the charge for an extra plate from the previous restaurant is “still nothing” compared to having to to pay for… cutting the toast in half. The customer was charged EUR 2 for such a service. According to RMF24, citing news.italy24.press, the restaurateur even tried to explain where the fee came from: “We used more napkins.”
