The Guayaquil artist returns to the main port and rediscovers it together with Diario EL UNIVERSO in a pleasant interview from the heights, aboard the airway.
She is 23 years old, living in Mexico, the country where she made her home, went international and where she decided to ‘put down roots’. The Guayaquil actress Vilma Sotomayor returns to his hometown after six years. The last time he was in the main port was to say goodbye to his father, who had passed away. However, he affirms, returning to Guayaquil is traveling to his memories, meeting again with family and dear friends and, of course, he emphasizes, savoring again each one of the dishes that because of the distance -although he knows how to prepare them- do not taste the same, they lack that pinch of ‘guayaca’ seasoning.
At our appointment for this interview from above, Vilma arrived on time. Prepared with her equipment for the photo shoot and ready to tour the streets of the Pearl of the Pacific from the Aerovía. “I missed coming to Guayaquil so much, it has been a long time, the city is beautiful and I am fascinated by how my beautiful Guayaquil looks, the Guayas River, everything they have done, the murals they made, it transmits so much emotion, so many feelings” , said the artist, who on this occasion traveled with her mother (based in the United States), with whom she met at the Panama airport.
He arrived two days ago, and before complying with a strict media tour, reuniting with his family has been vital. “I had not seen them for a long time, I came accompanied by my mother, who came with me from San Francisco, I am very happy also because I was a little away from the local media and I am also going to meet again with them,” says Vilma, mother of María José, José Antonio and José Eduardo.
“I feel that I dedicated many years of my life to my children, they were very young, but now the youngest is 6 years old, so I am returning with a little more strength to the middle, I never left because I have always done The rose of Guadalupe, As the saying goes, now I’m also in This story sounds familiar to me and they are series that take you three days to record, so I never stopped doing that, but strong or big productions I have not done for many years to dedicate myself to them, so I’m ready, very ready to go back to work in a big way, “he said. .
In the midst of the noisy streets of the city, the constant sound of cars honking their horns and the high-pitched voice of an informal vendor, Vilma recalled the year in which Mexico became her ‘land of wonders and greats. opportunities’. “I went to Mexico in the year 98, when I was doing Apple 12, I went to study. It was supposed to be six months and returned to Apple 12, then those six months turned into a year studying at CEA, Televisa’s acting school and after that I stayed in one novel, then I stayed in another and then another, and that’s how life was. Then I met my husband (José Antonio Alcócer), I got married and I have three beautiful children. My life was completely realized in Mexico, that is why I am always missing my country, missing my city, my people, missing my crabs, ”said Vilma. That same day, at night, the appointment is already on this agenda for a crab with her closest circle. “I was going to do it yesterday, but today I finally eat crabs, but until now I have already eaten yogurt and cassava bread, my children’s favorites,” he added.
With a marked Mexican accent, which is impossible not to adopt after 23 years of residence, Vilma has been part of dramatic productions such as The rose of Guadalupe (which are broadcast in Ecuador), since its inception. “With them (including As the saying goes) I have been working with them for more than ten years, and they are incredible work teams, they pamper you a lot and you have the opportunity to play many characters, because it is one chapter a day. So I always come out differently, so it is a very nice and great opportunity that they give me by being part of their casts ”, he stressed.
Another of the productions to which he has joined -which we have not seen in the country yet- is the series This story sounds familiar to me. “I also started working here and during the pandemic it was filmed, it was difficult but the truth is that they did COVID-19 tests on all the actors, they took great care of us and all the staff. From Televisa it is also this production, in fact they are the same producers of As the saying goes And it’s about them choosing a song and this is the main theme of the chapter and the whole story is based on what this song wants to say. They make a linked story. It’s pretty cool. He’s already five years old, ”said the 46-year-old artist.
Exploring digital platforms
In the pandemic, social networks served as a distraction at home from the harsh reality that was lived. It was with his six-year-old son that he discovered the qualities of TikTok. The first video he recorded was on his first-born account. After that first experience, she decided to create her own profile. “The first videos were with my son, then I started to like him a lot and I started to have a lot of fun and I became a fan. It was the distraction of the moment and the truth is that TikTok is for all ages, for boys, young people and also for adults, there are very funny videos, you can do many things and not only dances. Nothing that is done in the world is strictly for certain people, I believe that we set those limits and taboos for ourselves, if you feel like it, you have fun, it makes you and others happy, everything that does not harm you You can do it to no one else without any problem ”, he asserted.
Talents in Mexico
Being this country one of the new places to make their way, several Ecuadorian artists have begun to travel to find new opportunities and scenarios abroad. Vilma explained that to grow in the industry, in Mexico or any country, specific qualities are needed. “I think that what they need is first a lot of desire to want to do it, to get there, to know that you have to sacrifice many things in your life, in your family, and that is the most difficult thing really and the rest is to be insistent, persistent, never give up. and prepare yourself, that is an important foundation for everything. And fundamental is to have a Mexican accent. Many tell me: you no longer speak like an Ecuadorian. They always tell me and the truth is true, I no longer speak like an Ecuadorian, my accent is neutral. But you have to have a neutral accent because it is part of what they ask you to work, “he revealed.
The tour of the Aerovía continued, between the Guayas river, the Durán station, the busy Simón Bolívar boardwalk, and Vilma continued to admire the city in wonder, the change in its streets and structures, and in this means of transport that allowed her to travel to Guayaquil for more than an hour (for the duration of the interview, video and photos) and that left her with the desire to return again with her entire family, so that once again they will fall in love with her port as much as she does.
