Gustavo Pacheco and Boddega return to the stage after serious affections of their members

The show will be at the Centro de Arte Theater this Saturday, December 4. They are preparing a national and international tour.

The last presentation of the Ecuadorian group Boddega coincided with the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic, a moment that its members will never forget because each one was directly and indirectly affected with the virus that even led them to hospitalization. But there is no harm that for good does not come because now they are Motivated for the start of what will be a national and international tour that will take them to several Ecuadorian cities and they are already in talks to visit others in the United States, Spain and Italy.

Gustavo Pacheco, the only original member of the group created back in 1972, says that this new beginning has a spiritual tinge that marked him, not just him. “I don’t quite remember the last concert we gave (…) it was (…) that ‘folder’ has been erased by the covid (laughs). It was in 2020 when all the members of Boddega fell ill. Poncho Soto (bass) had covid, but was asymptomatic and had previously undergone open heart surgery; Mágdalo Quiroz (keyboards) was admitted to his house; Andrés Albán (drums) was very delicate in intensive care; Javier Tamayo (voice) took the worst part because he lost his mother, father and aunt; and I intubated in the hospital. While I was ill I had a kind of experience that made me think that it was not the time to go. This new beginning for me is also a thank you to Jesus. I heard that he said ‘hold on for a chance, Gustavo has more to give,’ ”recalls Pacheco.

In the concert, which they have called Life goes on, those who make up Boddega will remember their own themes that made them famous: Come girl, come, The man without a head, In your heart I have a place, Give me your love, In your eyes and in your smile, The Girl and the Holy Mary paint her, among others, plus songs from the 70s and 80s performed by Los Ángeles Negros, Los Iracundos, Buddy Richard, Los Mitos, Favio, José José, Miguel Gallardo, Piero, Rabito. “It will be a concert of more than 90 minutes. A magical evening to remember and also to lose 40 years of age in one night. Those who visit us will kiss their wives again, they will have fun and will be happy again, ”says Pacheco.

Boddega’s new return to the stage has its members highly motivated. “To be in the fight again; our art is to be on stage, but the pandemic closed the doors for us, we could not convey our feelings to the public. We are practically survivors. The music of the 70s and 80s still lives in our hearts. We will sing all the hits of Boddega and the most famous artists of those times ”.

Pacheco remembers that Boddega disintegrated in 1975 “and from there the only one who continues in music is me. In 1980 I went to Spain to study music. In 1985 I came back and composed, arranged and directed the song for Jesús Fichamba (La Niña, La Pinta and La Santa María). In 2000 I called professional musicians to become part of Boddega and who are the ones who accompany me today. I am the composer of 70% of the songs of the band ”.
