Ray Fisher, Cyborg from ‘Justice League’: My favorite superhero of all time is Blade from Wesley Snipes

The American actor is one of the stars of Comic Con Ecuador 2021 that takes place this weekend at the Guayaquil Convention Center.

With a fresh and relaxed outfit, a cotton T-shirt, black pants and even a mask, the American actor appeared Ray Fischer, the unmistakable Cyborg from the League of Justice, at the press conference of the brand new guests at the Comic Con Ecuador 2021 (an event that has the support of the Municipality of Guayaquil, through the Municipal Public Tourism Company, Civic Promotion and International Relations).

Is his first time in Ecuadorian territory, “In South America, in fact! reveals ”the 34-year-old performer, for whom this role, within the DC Extended UniverseIt was like celebrating their “birthday, Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Years on the same day.”

Although it is uncertain that he will repeat this role, since last year he has starred in a dispute with Warner (studio that produced the tape) due to conflicts in the recording sets, for Fisher it has been a highly appreciated role, especially for the affection of the fans and for having been able to embody the magic of superpowers that we had only seen on paper. These and other insights were shared by the artist in an exclusive interview with the newspaper El Universo.

What did you enjoy the most about playing Cyborg?

The best thing about playing the role of Cyborg was the exercise regimen, lifting weights AND being able to eat everything! Because Victor Stone is a football player, and Cyborg is a much bigger guy than I really am. There is something very special about having followed that training, because it was part of the investigation to recreate this character.

How close did you feel to the Victor Stone story?

Victor maintains a distant relationship with his father, which generates all kinds of personal conflicts. I grew up without a father figure too, to put it one way, so on that side I think we had a bit in common.

It is a little frequent that actors who play superheroes end up pigeonholed in those characters, is that something you fear?

Not at all. I have a diverse experience, which includes theater on Broadway, in addition to after League of Justice I made Women of the Movement, a series that about the civil rights movement told by the women behind it.

Speaking of superheroes, which one is your favorite?

My favorite superhero has always been Blade (a vampire hunter that appears in Marvel comics), made by Wesley Snipes. Growing up he was my number one superhero, he was the best. Which is why I think if I had the chance to meet Weley Snipes in person, I would probably pass out!

At the moment it is known that you are not involved in new projects for DC comics, so how willing would you be to play one of the Marvel characters instead?

I think that depends on the story and then the character. For me the story is the most important thing, and of course who is involved in the creative part of said production. I have friends who work on some Marvel productions and I get really excited every time I see a new project coming out and how it will look on screen.

What was it like working with director Zack Snyder on the most recent version of the League of Justice (2021)?

In fact, it was with him that we worked in 2016 (when the first League of Justice), filming with him again was like a dream. It was very satisfying to finish recording the story how we really started it. All the drama that was in between for me is already in the past. (The 2021 film) remains as the memory that I want to take with me, my time with Zack and Debbie (Zack’s wife and one of the film’s producers) and the dynamics with the rest of the team.

What has been the impact of this character on your career?

I’m still trying to figure it out. I think that for people in 2021 seeing a character like Cyborg feel very close to him, like we can identify with him, especially now that we can see more of him in the new version. 2020 was a very hard year for everyone, so having a character who goes through very strong moments and who at the same time has to say “You are not broken and you are not alone, there are many things and people around you that can help you stop feeling like this ”has been very important. Cyborg is a character who deals with physical disabilities, depression, family drama. That is why I can say that more than having had an impact on my career, the impact has been for the fans, because in the end they are the ones who help dictate whether later we see more of this character and the direction he can take. And I’m glad people really liked it.
