From January 1, 2021, each property owner is obliged to segregate the waste they generate. If the inhabitants of a given housing estate or block of flats do not comply with the regulations in force, they will face severe punishment. The amount of the fine may surprise you.

Everyone is well aware that in Poland there is an obligation to segregate. However, not everyone complies with this, which is why municipalities can impose considerable fines for it. If we are dealing with a single-family house, the matter is simple. However, if the lack of segregation of waste concerns residents of blocks of flats, the fine may also be imposed on neighbors who segregate their waste if other residents do not do so. How high a fine can you get? Some sums are surprising.

Penalty for not segregating waste. Its amount depends on several factors

If we do not comply with the obligation to segregate waste, we will pay a lot for it. Its amount depends on the prices of waste disposal and on the arrangements of a particular municipality. The amount can range from twice to even four times the rate for collecting selective waste. Residents of the housing and construction cooperative “Imielin” in Ursynów in . Garbage segregation is not as difficult as it may seem. In Poland, there is a waste segregation system (JSSO) and we divide it into several parts. Paper should go to the bin with a blue marking, metals and plastics with a yellow one, glass with a green one, and BIO waste with a brown one. In some municipalities, ashes are also collected and placed in black bags. There are also places where the type of glass is additionally segregated into colorless and colored.
