In the wake of the premiere of the movie “Barbie”, model Ashley Graham shared her personal experience with the famous doll and how it affected her childhood.

Graham (35) and a follower of the “body positive” movement that promotes body acceptance and respect for the appearance of others, admitted that her childhood was marked by a traumatic episode related to her Barbie dolls.

What did Ashley Graham say about Barbie?

Ashley revealed that she felt “traumatized” as a child because she couldn’t find a Barbie that looked like her, and believes she would have had better confidence at a young age if popular brand Mattel had been more inclusive and produced dolls with a wider range of body shapes.

“If I had a Barbie that looked like my body shape when I was growing up, I don’t think my mind would have been so traumatized. And I wouldn’t look in the mirror and think, ‘Why do I have this and she has that?'” he said during an interview with the Today Show.

The Sports Illustrated model went on to talk about her growing confidence as the years go by and how motherhood has changed her perception of herself and her body.

Graham has three sons: 3-year-old Isaac and 1-year-old twins Roman and Malachi, born to her husband Justin Ervin.

“I have loose skin on my stomach. I have cellulite all over my body. I have stretch marks all over and that’s okay because my body is my body and I’ve accepted it. I want girls to know that,” she said.

He has his own doll

While participating in the television show, Ashley also shared details about her program called “Barbie Dreamhouse Challenge”, in which participants will have to put all their efforts to turn an ordinary house into a real mansion of the famous doll.
