Pawłowice Małe is located in the Legnica poviat and is referred to as a ghost village. No one lives there and it doesn’t look like any resident will move in. Why this situation? The answer lies in the difficult past.

The village was adjacent to a copper smelter. In the 1980s, the inhabitants began to complain that they were not feeling well, so in 1983 a decision was made to relocate part of the village and allocate it for hydrotechnical facilities of a sewage treatment plant and a landfill for steelworks waste. The second part was to be attached to Legnica. People were displaced and the village slowly ceased to exist. The houses were demolished and only the building that once belonged to the railway remained. “The buildings were destroyed on purpose so that no one would be tempted to come back to this village. In 2021, there was one person living in the village. Today, the number of inhabitants is round zero
In 2006, it was planned to repopulate the village. People began to return, and according to 2011, Pawłowice Małe had only 13 inhabitants. In 2021, only one man remained, a woman who finally died in 2022, and today the village has no inhabitants. Pawłowice Małe is not the only such village in the region. There are about 40 villages that do not have any inhabitant.
