Piotr Cyrwus about “Klan”: At that time, this popularity annoyed me, sometimes I couldn’t bear it

Piotr Cyrwus played Ryśka from “Klan” for 15 years. It’s hard to believe that it’s been 11 years since he decided to leave the show. In an interview with weekend.gazeta.pl he mentions that

– The role of Rysiek came to me after three big roles, after my first successes in the theater and in the Television Theatre. But for the first time I collided with the popularity that I had heard about, but I was not aware of – recalls the actor in an interview with Angelika Swoboda and adds:

I did not know that it could look like this “in a small country with small people”, quoting Sławomir Mrożek. At that time, this popularity annoyed me, sometimes I couldn’t bear it, but today I have distance from it.

Piotr Cyrwus: First we want to be popular, and then it annoys us

– That’s how it is with us actors, that we want to be popular first, and then it annoys us. At least that’s how it was for me. At the theater school, and later at the STU Theater or the Stary Theater in Krakow, I heard everywhere that an actor should be able to hide behind a role. As if he wasn’t there at all. What hypocrisy! Maybe it sounded beautiful and noble, but it’s hard to be an unknown actor these days – comments Cyrwus. .

He could be seen in such films as “Pan Tadeusz” by Andrzej Wajda, “Fanatyk” by Michał Tylka or “No one will fall asleep in the forest today” by Bartosz Kowalski. When it comes to series, he has not only played the role of Ryszard Lubicz, after leaving “Klan” he played, among others, in “On Common”, “First Love” and “Colors of Happiness”. – Maybe I no longer take leading roles, but I do not refuse. Thanks to the series, it is enough for me to live – he says in an interview with weekend.gazeta.pl.

Piotr Cyrwus about leaving “Klan”: I don’t like standing in the open door

What was his farewell to the production that gave him nationwide popularity? – Let me say this: the role of Rysiek was like going through a rough tunnel for me – he recalls. – Because I decided to go further. I don’t like standing in open doors. I think one should be closed and the other should be opened. And it’s not like I’m cutting myself off from the role of Rysiek now. I spent a lot of time on the set of “Klan”, I met a lot of interesting people. 14 years of work is a lot of relationships and emotions, so leaving cost me a lot – explains Cyrwus.

Piotr Cyrwus graduated from the PWST in Kraków in 1895. He worked at the Polish Theater in Warsaw, Teatr im. S. Jaracz in Łódź, the STU Theater in Kraków. Since 1992, the actor has been associated with the Stary Theater in Krakow.
