Actor Joe Manganiello, 46, has officially filed for divorce from Modern Family star Sofia Vergara after seven years of marriage, citing “irreconcilable differences” in court documents obtained by various US media outlets.

According to what Page Six and TMZ reported, one of the differences was that Joe wanted a child with the actress, but they weren’t on the same page.

51-year-old Sofía is the mother of Manolo González, her only 31-year-old son, whom she shares with ex-husband Joe González.

A source close to the “True Blood” star told Page Six that Joe He had always wanted to be a father and that these feelings had intensified in recent years. While it’s unclear at this point where Vergara stands on the matter, when the two tied the knot in November 2015, it was understood that she may have been open about it at the time.

Blister care

After the official break between Manganiello and Vergara, the future of Bubbles, the pet they have shared since their wedding, is unknown.

The couple discussed the dog on social media, often joking that the dog preferred Joe. Under California law, a judge can decide who should have pets.

Actors Sofía Vergara and Joe Manganiello got married in 2015 in a ceremony in Palm Beach, Florida, according to a post on the official Facebook page of the Colombian star.

In January 2019, a new California law changed the way pet custody is handled in divorce cases. This new law gives judges the power to consider the care and best interests of a pet when making separation or divorce decisions.

In 2021, Sofia said her dream of adopting a dog went awry after she brought Bubbles home and the dog immediately preferred Manganiello. The actress joked that the Chihuahua “stole everything that was hers” after moving into the Los Angeles home she shared with Joe. Sofia spoke about her pet, whom she called an ‘idiot’, during an appearance on the Ellen Show, when she revealed that the dog had taken over her bed and her husband.

The Colombian joked that the Chihuahua slept in the bed with Joe; “They sleep together, and then I sleep on the other side. It got so weird. But I have to say it’s not Joe’s fault, it’s hers, she’s obsessed with him.” So Joe will most likely keep the rescued 10-year-old pet.

After announcing their divorce, Joe and Sofia said: “As two people who love and care for each other very much, we kindly ask that our privacy be respected at this time as we navigate this new phase of our lives.”

‘Two Daughters’ with Nick Loeb

The topic related to future children has followed Sofija and her partners for years. Before her marriage to Joe, she was embroiled in a protracted custody battle over two frozen embryos from an IVF treatment in 2013 with her then-fiancé Nick Loeb, who wanted to see the babies born.

Vergara had been in a relationship with Loeb since 2010; they got engaged two years later. Already in 2013, they decided to freeze their embryos. ‘I will have to use a surrogate mother because I had thyroid cancer and a lot of radiation. I don’t want to wait forever, but not yet, because I work like an animal,’ Sofia explained to CBS News at the time.

But soon difficulties started and in 2014, Nick and Sofia broke off their engagement. There, the businessman sued a Colombian woman for custody of the embryos, with the alleged intention of implanting them in another woman’s uterus to fulfill his desire to become a father.

In 2021, a Los Angeles County Superior Court judge issued a permanent injunction that said the businessman could not use the embryos without the Colombian woman’s consent. The actress and entrepreneur said that she wanted to destroy them because a child could not be born if their parents were not in a loving relationship.

For his part, Nick Loeb says that with current technology, he knows the sex of the embryos, which he assured that they both decided to name Isabella and Emma. So far, as part of that process, an agreement is maintained that stipulates that neither of them may use the embryos without the other’s written consent. However, Loeb, who is now married and a father, believes Sofia will “change her mind” and allow him to use her frozen embryos following her split from Joe Manganiello, and wants to “reconcile her friendship” following their ugly legal battle.
