In recent days, the media has been talking about the story of Joanna from Krakow, which was presented in “Fakty TVN”. A woman three months ago decided to take the abortion pill because her pregnancy threatened her health. She informed the doctor about everything, who decided to inform the police who came to the hospital. Joanna was interrogated, a cordon was created around her, so the doctors were not allowed to work. In addition, she was told to undress, do squats and cough, and when she wasn’t looking, the police searched her computer and mobile phone.
Joanna’s case was not left unsaid on TVP
This case outraged many Polish women and men. There are voices online saying that this story sounds like it happened in Iran. Many politicians who now host various TV programs have spoken on this matter. It was also decided to raise the topic in the program “Mimienna 20”, which is broadcast on the national TVP Info station.
One of the guests was Katarzyna Sójka from PiS, who, instead of focusing on the merits of the case, decided to attack the opposition, saying that she was using Joanna’s story to strike at the government once again:
This is another shameful example when the opposition uses the tragedy of another woman to wage a political war, to focus its voters on hatred and aggression against the ruling party, said the MP.
Anita Sowińska from the Left decided to respond to her words, who specifically conveyed how Joanna’s story affected women in Poland: “Polish women in the PiS state do not feel safe in Poland. This is a state that strives for a fundamentalist state,” replied the MP, adding that “you can’t legally terminate a pregnancy in Poland.”
Magdalena Ogórek defends TVP journalists at all costs. He believes that other media “hunt”
Emotions at some point reached their zenith and the MP of the Left said directly what she thinks about how women are treated and the topic of abortion in Poland. She directly said that TVP and PiS politicians “have already killed a child once”:
The kid took his own life because of the people. It’s immoral. You are exploiting a human tragedy for your own political ends. This is disgusting.
Then Magdalena Ogórek, the host of the program, decided to join the discussion with a militant attitude. She began to defend the ruling camp and her colleagues, while accusing the Left and the “supporting media” of the so-called stalking her baby:
I apologize for such words, Madam Speaker, because they are terrible and untrue. I can start talking on the vision about how you hunt my child, what the media is doing that supports you. You were firm, and so am I. Don’t let the MP insult journalists of TVP – said indignant Magdalena Ogórek.
Joanna took an abortion pill, the doctor called the police
After three months, Joanna decided to tell “Fakty TVN” about what happened to her in one of Krakow’s hospitals. Mrs. Joanna reported to the doctor because she felt bad after taking the abortion pill. She decided to call the police, who decided to question her. The way they did it disgusts Polish society.
I undressed. I didn’t take off my panties because I was still bleeding and it was too humiliating, degrading for me, and that’s when I burst, that’s when I screamed in their face: ‘what do you want from me?!’ – said Joanna in ‘Fakty po Faktach’.
Later, it was decided to transfer her to another hospital, escorted by the police. There, another patrol was waiting for her, who took her phone and laptop. The Supreme Medical Chamber referred to Joanna’s case. “We would like to emphasize that what happened to the patient is a violation of the patient’s rights and we hope that the case will be taken up by the Ombudsman for Patients’ Rights. We do not have our consent to violate the patient’s right to intimacy, medical confidentiality and to hinder the provision of assistance to the patient. The court releases medical confidentiality in Poland” – we read in the release.
