What exactly is purgatory? According to the theological dictionary, “this means a state of painful purification after death. There is a belief in the Church that not all the saved will experience happiness in heaven immediately after death. Some undergo a state of purification through suffering and in this state they can be supported by the prayers of the faithful on earth.” There are many different visions and interpretations of purgatory. One of the most popular is this one from. Let us remember, however, that although the prophecies of various saints, mystics and fairies are popular, it is good to keep an appropriate distance from them.
What does purgatory look like? This is how Padre Pio describes this place
Padre Pio said that he was visited many times by the souls in purgatory, who showed him what fate befell them in the place of posthumous purification. Thanks to these descriptions, the monk got to know purgatory and, as it turns out, severe punishments there. Moreover, from his descriptions emerges the image of fire, but not one that kills, but purifies.
If the Lord allowed the soul to pass from this fire to the most burning flames on this earth, it would be like passing from hot water to cold water.
– he described.
Many people may be surprised by this description, because fire has always been associated with hell. Padre Pio, however, points out that “the purgatory fire is the love of Jesus, which removes the stains of sin”, and the hellish one “is a symbol of hatred”. The visions experienced by the Capuchin motivated him even more for all the souls in purgatory. Padre Pio believed that when a soul no longer needed a prayer, it moved on to the next one. Thanks to this, it helps them to “serve their punishment” faster.
Other prophecies of Padre Pio. “Millions will die”
Padre Pio not only described what purgatory should look like, but also had other visions and prophecies. One of them is the one about the end of the world. According to the monk, on the day burning rain will fall from the sky. – “The night will be cold, the wind will roar and howl horribly. After some time you will hear the thunder. Close all doors and windows and do not talk to anyone from the outside. Fall before the cross, repent of your sins and beg for My Mother’s protection” – predicted Padre Pio. Besides the burning rain, there will be earthquakes all over the world. Millions will die. Those who survive are to receive the revelation of the angels.
Who was Padre Pio?
Padre Pio was born in 1887 in Pietrelcina, Italy. As a child, he experienced apparitions. It is not surprising that as a teenager he joined the Order of Friars Minor Capuchin. In the first years of his ministry, stigmata appeared on his body. There is a theory that they were supposed to correspond to the five wounds that were inflicted on Jesus during the crucifixion. In 2002, Padre Pio became a saint of the Catholic Church.
