Bogumił Kobiela was a graduate of the Krakow theater school, graduating with honors in 1953. It was in the walls of the university that he met , who quickly became his bosom friend, stage companion and roommate.

Cybulski was his friend in life and profession. They supported each other on their way to fame
After graduating, they both went to Gdańsk, where they got a job at the Wybrzeże Theatre. However, the Bim-Bom Theater brought them fame, whose performances attracted crowds. The next significant step in the development of their careers was a trip to the capital. Kobiela performed on the stage of the Ateneum and Komedia theaters, he was also associated with the famous cabarets Dudek and Wagabunda. He began to appear on the small and big screen. He has collaborated with many outstanding directors, e.g. Andrzej Munk, Wojciech Jerzy Has and , who used to say that Kobiela is a versatile artist. “He was gifted with great acting technique and could play just about anything. Because he also had tremendous comic power, he was mechanically cast in comedy roles. Perhaps what he suffered the most was that the audience demanded less from him than he could give. He created his most famous acting roles in “Ashes and Diamonds”, “The Saragossa Manuscript” and “Bad Happiness”.
Although he appeared in 25 films on the screen, the main role was still in the realm of dreams. He believed that he would finally be able to prove his artistry and predispositions. – I play in films quite often, although I haven’t had many important roles or interesting characters. However, I still hope that I will get my role – in one of the interviews. The role in Wajda’s Macbeth was supposed to be such a chance, but a tragic accident changed everything.
After Cybulski’s death, he was afraid that he would be next. The sad scenario soon came true
On January 8, 1967, Kobiela’s life turned upside down. died under the wheels of the train. The death of his friend was a shock to him. It took him a long time to come to terms with this loss.
I am really afraid more and more often that something unforeseen, bad may happen, because we are too good. And I think that nature always equalizes, unfortunately
– in one of the letters to his wife, Małgorzata Nowakowska, whom he married four years earlier. His premonitions had not deceived him. On the first day of July 1969, Kobiela met with Andrzej Wajda to discuss the script for the screen adaptation of Shakespeare’s drama, in which he was to fulfill his dream by creating the first in his career. – He was very enthusiastic about my project, he promised that he would look through the plays, look for them. He would be great in a dramatic repertoire – said the director in the “Film” magazine.
The next day, Kobiela was on the road with his wife and two hitchhikers he had picked up along the way. The conditions were not the best as it was raining. At one point, the car skidded. The actor lost control of the steering wheel and collided head-on with an oncoming bus. It seemed that Nowakowska suffered the most damage. However, upon arrival at the hospital, he suddenly lost consciousness. It turned out that he had a ruptured spleen, which led to hemorrhage and collapse. Despite two operations, Bogumił Kobiela died after 8 days of hospitalization. He was 38 years old.
