Mainly rich Poles and foreigners go to the Baltic Sea. The rest counts every penny

The peak of the tourist season on the Baltic Sea is fast approaching – yet some beaches are still empty. It turns out that this year mainly wealthy Poles and foreigners are resting at the seaside. The rest must count expenses. Or count on luck.

Usually at this time of year it was difficult to squeeze between colorful screens, deckchairs and a crowd resting by the Baltic Sea. This time, however, it’s different. Seaside entrepreneurs complain that there are too many visitors. No wonder – this year’s holidays on the Baltic beaches are dominated by wealthy Poles and foreigners.

Unusual tourist season. The Baltic beaches are empty

For some time, the media have been writing about the emptiness of the Baltic Sea. All the more so because the occupancy in hotels and resorts is not uniform at all; most guests book either the most expensive five-star hotels or campsites. When looking for reasons for such trends in the tourist area, it is worth taking into account inflation, the general increase in prices, and the fact that the tourist voucher has run out. – June was very good. In July, bookings slowed down. We hope that it will be better in the second half of the month – says Marcin Kokot from the City Apartments company with the Forsal website.

“In many hotels Poles are only 25 percent.”

At the Baltic Sea, the peak season begins more or less in mid-July – yet so far it does not seem that the beaches will be filled with crowds of tourists in a few days. Occupancy in seaside hotels can be described with one embarrassing phrase: “it depends.” – Occupancy in July reaches about 70 percent, but in many hotels Poles account for only 25 percent. – says Hanna Mojsiuk, president of the Northern Chamber of Commerce in Szczecin with the Money service.

Polish tourists count their expenses and save on holidays

At the moment, it is still difficult for hoteliers to clearly indicate whether the season will be successful or not. Many Poles decide to book a hotel just before the planned departure. The reason is quite simple – we look for savings at every step. Inflation has become a symbolic cold shower that cools the enthusiasm for bold holiday plans.

Polish tourists count their expenses and do not indulge in excessive madness, as evidenced by the research of the Association of Financial Companies and the Institute of Economic Development of the Warsaw School of Economics. We learn from them, among other things, that almost 30 percent of household members plan no holiday spending this year. A large group of people also decide on significant restrictions on spending money. Foreigners are more bold in their luxury.

At the moment, we are not complaining about occupancy, but the vast majority of customers are from outside Poland. Germans and Scandinavians predominate

– says Roman Kucierski, managing director of the Hamilto hotel with Money service.
